It's funny, if you follow his instagram, you know when some sort of global competition is coming up because he starts posting pictures wearing his Germany jacket or hat to remind everyone he has some vague association with Germany.
First, he did it to make teams not to ‘honor his heritage’ or some bs he claimed at the announcement. No problem with it if you have the option (see: Aisha Praught), but at least tell the truth.
Second, his German is absolutely terrible. I wouldn’t say “he speaks German.”
Third, he must have been miffed on the start line standing next to an American, hearing the reception, and then hearing crickets when he was announced.
Yes, I don’t particularly like him. Yes, enjoyed the silence when he was announced. And yes, I would like him much more if he was open about why he switched nationalities.

Mate, Parsons gave interviews in German and was speaking freely on a German podcast. His German is quite decent. Also he is not a native speaker and I guess he doesn't get the chance to speak German in the US very often.

German here. I had never heard him speak German until the interview with ZDF after his heat last night. It is clear he is not a native speaker, but he can speak German very well. I was pleasantly surprised

Fair enough, I guess it’s improved. When he was interviewed after the German champs his first year there it was significantly less than non-native, to the point where I wouldn’t have called it fluent.
