He took it out and ensured the race was honest! Great semifinal!

My favorite runner tonight.
Total badass
He looked really solid too. Happy for his performance
He looked so smooth. 13:14 and in total control from 6 laps to go.
Rewarded with a big Q too. Good for him
The CBC announcer thought that Luis was getting lapped. They totally missed his surge to the front. And then when the field caught him, the announcer was ready to write the poor guy off.
Oh, and to boot, when it appeared that Mo Ahmed may have gotten outsprinted for the final Q, they started flipping out. Guys ... he's 10 seconds up on the leading q from Heat 1.
Jumping Jeebus on a pogo stick - get some people behind the mic who know the sport.
I suggest getting the CBC Sports app, going to the Worlds section, and then Video at the bottom.
You can choose Watch Day 8 Prime Time which I believe has studio commentary from a Canadian perspective.
Or you can choose Watch Day 8 Afternoon Session which it the international feed with the British announcers who know the sport and no commercials.
They were talking about big and small Q and that Ahmed would be in for sure based on time, when the race wasn't even over yet.
On the first day of the Championships, I gave detailed instructions on how to use a VPN to get the international feed from CBC. NO ONE bothered to look at it.
Pearls before swine!
Yeah, I mean it’s great to have balls in the semi, but how much will he have left in those balls for the final? There’s a lot of celebration going on in semifinals now that I don’t remember in the past. Regardless, good for him and I hope he does well.
The nbc stream didn’t think he was lapped, but my god does the main guy struggle with names.
He called Grijalva “Grivalya” the whole race, messed up countless others, and in the funniest moment of the meet, called Moujihid in the 800 Moujahideen. TWICE. Once in the prelim and again today in the semi. Classic.
Jakob I looked really good.
Kara (? I think) kept saying he looked sluggish, tired, with no pop.
I thought he stayed back due to being quite confident.
Then a very cheeky final straight.
He is a threat. A win by him in the 5k would be big
Yakob ran like an absolute boss
TWO SCOOPS TWO GENDERS TWO TERMS TWO MEDALS
Intelligent racing. Every guy in that heat can run a 13:20 so the smart thing to do if you're not one of the super studs is to take it out and ensure you sweep up all the time qualifiers. I'm just a little annoyed that one or two others didn't go with him to trade off the pace. There's four guys from that heat who owe Luis a beer for that.
Ok, it's probably hurt him a little for the final, but he was never going to medal anyway and at least he guaranteed that he is in that final. Great to see him rewarded for that effort. Same with McColgan in the women's heats.
Arrogant ingebritsen run from the back and then showboating... hope Cheptegei runs 12:30 and smashes them all
Agreed. I think more back of pack runners should hammer the heats. If you can't kick w/ the top guys it is your only choice! The Japanese have done it for years. And who knows... occasionally the atmosphere might lend itself to a PR.
On the flip side, if a final is going to be fast then it is a better option for the back of packers to run 10 seconds or more off PR pace and scoop up all the top guys as they fall off.
Why do some of you have the fantasy of Pre and think he has balls? Grijalva did what he had to do and it was a good idea. He may not have made it off of 13:45-50 pace. Going to the front and hammering is not always a great move. It appeared to be the right thing yesterday.
Cheppy can't even wash Yakob's jock. No one can hang with the Nordic KING down the homestretch. I hope he "showboats" in the finals too, as it triggers the uptight LetsRun libs.
Luis was totally bad-ass. Love it.
Who was the dude who was triple-lapped? Gave me flashbacks. I half thought he jumped out of the crowd and was hobbyjogging.
Goal #1 in a semi: Get a Q.
Goal #2: Get a q.
Goal #3: Don't get DQ'd
Goal #4: Conserve energy for the final.
Unless the first 3 goals are met #4 doesn't mean much. See US 800 runners for Exhibit A.
