Thank you for pointing it out. These guys simp for that guy so much it's nauseating. And notice how it's only him and Fisher who will get better (even though the Norwegian has always been perfect according to them) while their opponents stay stagnant. The Norwegian will win the 50,000m, the Norwegian this and that. Desperate simps.
That only worked last year because cheriyut pushed the pace the whole way round, i think he knew kipsang would slow and took the front but let it slow a bit on the 2nd last lap which let whightman catch up, he looked in good shape just tactically not the best performance, I can't wait to see what he does in the 5k.
this is going to light a fire under jakob's ass and make him work on his raw speed and his tactics. definitely reminds me of el g getting passed by ngeny in the 2000 olympics. i love this generation of 1500 guys, the early and mid 2010s where it was all sit and kick was boring af. these mfs are running sub 330s in world finals and olympic finals and having epic battles on the regular. extremely excited for the next few years
1000% agree. I would imagine that leading up to the World Champs Jakob would have had a feeling of almost invincibility after having gone close to unbeaten for so long. I was suprised how little kick he had to challenge Wightman. This will definitely get Jakob hungrier than ever and may be just what he needs to take him to the next level and possibly take a shot at the world record before too long. His raw speed definitely needs some focus. Perhaps he needs to get a few high quality 800m meets under his belt as part of that..Exceptional run by Wightman!

There is not much Jakob can do about his speed. Speed is dictated by the running form and his is just not optimal for sprinting. If Jakob focuses more on speed work, he will get injured.
5000m is the way to go for Jakob, he has enough strength to run a 12:45 for the win and also enough speed to outsprint everyone in a sit-and-kick race.

It will definitely be interesting to see what Jakob's lifetime best for the 5000m ends up being. Going of the PB 1500m times of Cheptegei (3:37) and Bekele (3:32) both who have or had the 5000m world record, you would hope Jakob could drop that down another notch or two.
This is like when Coe got the silver in the 800 in Moscow and everyone sh*t all over him because he was favored to win. Then he came back huge for the gold in the 1500. Given Jakob's is more of a strength runner than speed (Wightman is definitely speed over strength), look for Jakob to win the 5000 on Sunday.
This race was just a tactical mistake my Jakob. He let Wightman cut in on the curve thinking he could come around on the final stretch. What he didn’t plan on was Wightman cutting in before he had room. Jakob was forced to stutter step and lost all momentum. At that point the race was over.
Looked like he ran his strategy just fine. He move to the lead with 800 to go. He did go early, they just went with him. 3:29 is not a bad race. He just got beat.

I don't know. we are in kind of a golden age of 5000/10000 running. he could get 1st, he could get 6th.

Disagree on him losing all momentum. He actually managed to close somewhat on Wightman in the home straight but then Wightman sensed that and kicked into another gear to pull away from him. Wightman's low 1:44 800m PB would definitely help him there. Jakob's current 800m best is only a mid 1:46 as comparison.
Jakob blew his load with 800-900 to go on the home stretch. He surged to the front too dramatically for no good reason, he didn't continue pushing the pace, he simply wasted energy on a surge and sat at the front for a lap. He normally races really smart, that was not a smart move.
