Hoare had run better all season. Meanwhile, Kerr looked like crap at British Trials and hadn't done anything impressive this year. Shouldn't be too hard to figure out why people doubted him, bronze medalist or not.
kerr looked terrible in the heats at the olympics and it worked out well. would be funny if these results led to a bad final. he seems to be fit and is strong mentally tho so he is probably in line for another podium, but couldnt be the favorite. I honestly dont remember, but did he even win the UK championship?
no idea what happened to Hoare, but he died on that final stretch.
Sprinters do so much more showboating or whatever it’s called and I rarely see it condemned unless they bomb.
So why does him doing this bother you?
T&F needs the personalities. In fact, after Allen’s DQ, they need anything they can get. Most of my friends are huge sports fans and only a former HS XC teammate even knows that the Worlds is on…
I think if it’s a true run race (3.28-3.31 winning time) I think Kerr and wightman running for second or third. However if it’s around 1.56/2.39 splits I can see them in contention with a 53/54 last lap. Which is exactly why either Jacob follows stewy or takes it himself and race hits 800 in 151/152.
Before the WCs there were some here that actually put Hoare ahead of Kerr. Lol. They know who they are.
Tbh if you are predicting the medals/results of the final based solely on the pairs recent form, then yeah it makes more sense to pick Hoare(dude just ran 3:47 (albeit on Jinge's caboose) compared to Kerr barely making the British world team). Yesterdays semis just go to show that WC rounds are no joke, especially given the current lack of seeding. No excuses for Hoare's off-day, but unless Kerr thinks he can kick like that off of 3:31-3:32 pace (at minimum imo. hunch is that it'll be a cluster kick at 3:29) he'll have to settle for another bronze or top 5 finish.
Makes sense people were picking Hoare based on how he was running this year + head to head over Kerr indoors + kerr’s relatively poor showing at British Champs recently.
Don’t forget, Ollie beat Kerr for an NCAA title a number of years back.
Of course it looks absurd now with Kerr looking so dominant and Ollie fading yesterday. But as someone else pointed out, Kerr barely made it out of round 1 in Tokyo and then medaled in the final.
The line is just absurdly thin for many of these top guys.
lol. hadn't done anything impressive? he ran 3:48 indoors for a time trial type race and has proven his kicking speed and endurance is still all there like last year. if you followed him closely, you'd know he always peaks for world's, doesn't care for horseplay and is a strong ass runner when it comes to finals.

He hadn't done anything outdoors. He ran much better last year Outdoors ahead of the Olympics. There's not much debate on this, he pretty much acknowledges he wasn't fit as far as the 800 by British Trials and thus didn't look great. His races of over 800 were bad. To his credit, it seems a lot of this was sharpness/training through.
I do think people are somewhat overrating the close yesterday. Tim and Jakob were pretty much cruising it in at 100m to go once they saw they were safe after surveying the field. Kerr was at a slightly higher gear and didn't shut it down. Mario Garcia Romo was stride for stride with him the last 50, but rightfully nobody is reading too much into that.
I don't think he's the favorite. I hope his smile at the end is mainly because he feels great, not because he thinks he was running easier than Jakob and has Gold in the bag.
That said, better to be more arrogant than not when heading into the 1500 final.
