instead of being happy for Rupp you should be sad for all other US marathoners if the best is an old injured marathoner. At least a Canadian was much better. ( I am not Canadian btw)

Exactly! Why be happy for someone when you can be down on everyone else?
Then be happy for somebody who had a good result, Tola, Geremew, Abdi, Levins, you have plenty of choices...

This was my take as well. Team USA chokes spectacularly. It is true that Rupp was by far the best, but that is saying very little. Did the others even finish?

The results are easy to find. If you’d bother to check, you’d find that all three US runners finished. You might also notice that Team USA was one of only six teams that had two runners in the top 24.
All they want to do is their daily 10 miler then play x box and post tik toks the rest of the day and then have the nerve to complain about no brand offering them a living wage to go run another 2:13 marathon
Despicable. Good for Rupp; but what on God's green Earth is going on in the US. How can Galen Rupp, after injuries, surgeries, DNFs, controversy, AGING etc continue to be leaps and bounds ahead of the rest of the country? At this point, I'm not even asking for 2:04s, 2:05s- for some reason that's out of the question. But can we at least get Rupp, since he clearly is going to be the face of American marathonning for the next 30 years someone to run thru 30k with?
Mantz seems promising, maybe some other dudes crop up and develop, but I don't see much after that.

This guy gets it. And it's not just about today too, that guy is a true lion (appropriate mane again) and always brings it even when he doesn't do well. Always the lesson in American class. And no lame excuses when he loses big time. His bronze medal at the Olympics was due to his own doing, not the result of a perfect storm of luck, accidents and circumstances like a certain someone in the 1500m.
Because the US men don't train to race. They train to qualify and that's what they succeed at. They make good pacers and time trials. But when it comes to racing they back off or secede.

Galen can still run faster than any other American but THAT HAS NEVER BEEN HIS GOAL.
If he doesn’t feel like he can finish on the podium of a WMM or the Olympics he will retire. He has very little respect in guys that are just trying to make a team.
Another Rupp masterclass. Turns up injured and still drops sub-2:10.
This is how embarrassing US distance running is outside of Fisher. Rupp obviously can't compete anymore but no other American can compete with him. Maybe Fisher moves up at some point after the next Olympic 10k.
Marathon has been dead in the US for quite some time now. It really is a special event that goes completely against comfort of modern life that is enjoyed in the West. Lets cheer for Rupp now but we need to start thinking ahead about our marathon competitiveness.

You obviously run very, very slow and have never made an effort hard enough to get injured, so you're clueless and should stay on the sidelines.
Galen was injured and stopped during part of the race...I was there spanky. Try working out harder so you really know what hard running feels like. Good luck!
