It was hosted by the Crazy 8's 8K and this is the weekend they always have that race. It's just how it fell on the calendar. Mid 80's at the start and super humid.
Drivers do this because they see a gap with no runners and therefore believe that makes it okay to bypass road closure signage. Police may have ticked them but I doubt they get arrested unless they run into someone. Though it appeared Mantz grazed the vehicle as he tried to pass around it.

So what? The premier league isn't going to keep running during the world cup this October even though that's when the Premier League has pretty much always been scheduled for a century.
It's hilarious that USATF put a **national championship** road race the same time as the world championships.
Shadrack Kipchirchir won over Mantz in a sprint. 22:40
Nobody cares. Not even LetsRun.
Really bad timing for a big road race. Also USATF should get over pretending every road race they help sponsor is some kind of national championship and go back to having road nats.
Mantz' NCAA elegibility was used all within 4 calendar years. This as opposed to 4 school years, which is 2-1/2 months short of 5 years. And certainly not a year more than that, ie. typical redshirt athlete.
Mantz didn't use the extra Covid year he had the option of using. Never was a super-senior. Or even a 5th year redshirt senior. Not for a single season.
Mantz broke no NCAA rules.
I don't like him and root against him just like I do for Rupp. Nevertheless, the above points are facts.
I honestly don't know why so many people hate Mantz. Because he's a couple years older? There are people in the NCAA older than Mantz winning races but no one is talking about THEM.

It doesn't feel to me like people hate Mantz. I think that they just like to make jokes about the BYU guys being old. Don't get so worked up about it.
Nah, it's just on the same day as one high profile race that featured only 3 Americans. It's not like the people in the 8K had to choose that over racing in Eugene. There are a lot of other pro US runners around who aren't on the team for Eugene and are happy to make a living on the circuit, even if that stretches the attention spans of autistic dorks to the breaking point. Whenever I'm unsure whether there's a solid understanding of the realities of the sport among this site's visitors, someone volunteers a thread like this to confirm the lack.
annoyed people with his little snitch companion for a few years
redshirt year
medical redshirt year
covid year
4 years normal eligibility
4 years extra secret byu eligibility
left "college" with or without a degree; no confirmation of this
Nah, he graduated at 18 from high school, did two years mission in Africa and got way out of shape, then did BYU in four consecutive years. I don’t like that he ran the very last NCAA xc championship that he did, but eight years is funny.

So you're telling me Mantz still has that coveted 8th year of eligibility left for the fall?
