The fans in Eugene are very knowledgeable but they’re also, from my experience, picky. It’s a nice kind of picky, but they want action, action, action.

It's not the fans, it's the organizers. Meets in Eugene, unlike meets almost everywhere else, run on time. If a race is supposed to start at 7, it starts at 7, no exceptions. The same people who run the big meets also ran the low key meets in the summer. I remember being late to the start line once and pleading with the starter to give me time to get my spikes on. He gave me a few seconds.
