Not everyone totally believed Mo Farah's trafficking story, but the documentary aired Wed night, what do you think now?

It would explain why he never ran well in traffic

BBC are totally trustworthy...employed Jimmy Saville, Rolf Harris and Westwood to name a few. Yep if it aired on the BBC it's 100% the truth......

I don't have anything to contribute as to whether the story is factual. However one thing I'll always respect is Mo Farah's grind. I mean he's 40 years old and he's still out there grindin'. Always has been. I'll always have mad respect for that

Utter nonsense. Even if every word of the documentary is untrue--and I have no reason to think there's any great "lie" here--none of that changes the fact that to call a child a "criminal" for an immigration circumstance beyond his or her control is a contemptible, indefensible position legally or morally.

When children are in these situations it is different. I doubt at 9 or whatever he had a choice where he went.

Coevett, your posts this last week have been the last straw for me.

I used to overlook some of your more 'out there' ramblings as your historical knowledge and appreciation of runners was enjoyable to read. But now I am finally using the block function.

I found the documentary to be fairly engaging and most of the new story quite plausible.

I think this new version of Mo’s life story is quite possibly the truth or much closer to it.

it makes sense that he kept it quiet, it makes sense that others who knew about it kept it quiet.

it makes sense that his twin started using the surname Farah (to protect his original story).

It makes me feel a good deal of sympathy for someone who’s childhood was like that, and it goes a long way to explaining why he has a history of lying, mistreating people and generally leaving a trail of destruction wherever he goes.

Although the new narrative will give the majority of the British public a great deal of sympathy and respect for Mo. to the running public I suspect it will only reinforce the idea that he is a very shady and untrustworthy character.

But with the rather large caveat of ‘well how do you expect someone to behave as an adult when their childhood was like that.’

He’s had to lie and cheat and hide the truth throughout his later childhood and adolescence in order to protect himself, having already suffered tragic loss before that.

Heartbreaking, but not at all surprising if it lead to other socially and morally (and sportingly) questionable behaviour down the line.

As someone else mentioned, I still don’t understand why he hasn’t provided a better life quality for his mother now he has found her, but there could be cultural reasons for that which I don’t understand. May be an old lady In Somaliland has little interest in the things that Mo’s money could buy at this stage in her life.

Oh yeah, in addition to my above post: i think we will see in the nearish future if the story is true as there is a clear case for a criminal investigation and prosecution of the unnamed women who brought him to the UK.

she can refuse to take part in a BBC documentary all she likes but a police investigation will be a different matter

that is also of course another aspect of the film which is strange. Why Mo has ‘gone public’ but not involved the police.

the bit about him possibly losing his citizenship was also overplayed for drama and a bit stupid.

he was clearly a child and if anyone broke the law it was the social services who pushed through a citizenship application knowing the details were false.

so that is another aspect which we will probably see down the line if it’s true oft not.

Interesting story; but lots more still be be known/ uncovered

(so I'll preface this by admitting I haven't watched the documentary yet, and will do so soon)

but my question is around the timing. He has all his accolades, he has his Sir title, he's had a film made about him, he's been in the public eye for gameshows and starts fading back into relative obscurity with his declining competitiveness (his last go in the public eye was 1) failing to get the Oly standard twice, 2) getting beaten by a 'club runner' at Vitality 10K).. why was this never brought up in the documentary he released before? Why now? As a cynical point, it also highlights he's very comfortable lying for many years, but to be honest this feels (from the clips I've seen) more like something he was only just told recently and is now passing on to the world.

the strange timing just after the VLM announcement feels more like a publicity roll-out ahead of his final swing at VLM.... 'the trafficked boy who ran ____'... but from a man who clings to his privacy so much, it only makes you question the motivation here

The Spectator magazine is apparently about to run an expose of Mo's lies.

I believe this trafficking thing was probably true. He still 100% was a doper though

Pretty much where I am but I'd say 90%...

I'm a Brit, I'm not his biggest fan, but the documentary was good IMO. I think it's pretty clear that this happened and is not a lie, even if there are still some unanswered questions. I think he likely has his own unanswered questions.

Also, Coevett has clearly moved from eccentric to abhorrent on these threads - check your head, pal... You can not like Mo, think he's a doped and not come across as a total moron.
