In a startling revelation a week shy of the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, the Olympic triple jumper said the sport's national governing body is mulling how to put top performers on the payroll.
Throw them all in a barracks facility like they have for the navy. If you can’t maintain your times you’re out back in the matrix working a normal job like the rest of these guys in the forum. I was really impressed by the facilities the Norwegian triathletes use to train in Spain. it’s like jail in a way but it’s awesome because it gives them a focused place to train rat and sleep no distractions. probably why they have great success. I can’t see why usatf can’t purchase a single building Christ that would house the entire US team and hopefuls
Oceanside High School's Willie Banks was cheated out of the 1980 Olympics by Carter's Boycott. Yet he went on to earn a J.D. at UCLA. Willie is on the verge of professionalizing USA T&F, specifically Long Distance Running and High Performance, by us a paying a living wage, and formalizing the 1,000 of elite training camps, elite clubs, and 100,000 elite athletes in Southern California. (Known as the "World's only Permanent 365 Day/Year Outdoor Summer Olympics Training Base"). We've wait so long for this. Congratulations to you, USA elites!

What are you smoking? 100,000 elite athletes in So Cal? Delusional. 1000 elite training camps, elite clubs? Pure garbage. Great place to train except when it's too hot (all summer except right on the coast) car smog, when wild fires make the air toxic, good grief man.
Great fo So Cal to finally get noticed and have some International press coverage. So Cal has the most Olympic medals in T&F and more and more are earned each year.
It's Netflix, Apple. Amazon, Google, Alibaba, Mircosoft who are driving up the value of sports teams. I happy to hear they see our worth and we can finally have the money to have major track meets between Olympic Games.
It'll be a boom for Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce if UCLA's Wille Banks can pull it off. L.A. would become the de facto pro training camp and permanent residence of players the same today as the NFL, NBA, MLB has been for over 100 years.

Not a chance. LA is a dump. It's the surrounding areas that are nice. Willie is talking about possibly paying athletes, not setting up an LA camp. I know you are the same dude posting under multiple names who keeps lying about how great LA supposedly is. Give it up. There are SO many better places to train and live then the LA area. Too expensive, smog, bad traffic, high crime, the list goes on. LA sucks.
- Some athletes need the support, others don't. Getting into a situation where Sydney is getting the same stipend as a field event athlete who's unsponsored seems like a waste of time. Hopefully they can make sure this is needs-based. -Dwight Stones is on the money on NBC. The announcers/talent can only do so much. It's clear that the production team has no passion for the field events and won't try anything innovative to solve the problem. Thank God for the world feed is all I'll say. -I agree with his proposed solve for the horizontal jumps. Give athletes a 20-30cm safe zone and just measure from where they take off. Nobody wants to watch 40+% fouls, and this being a board-judging contest. Asterisk the record books if you need. -Disagree on vertical jumps/pole vault...seeing athletes take each other on at the different heights is compelling.
Yeah if this pans out it will be something like $20,000 a year to 5 athletes, one of whom will probably be Allyson Felix. Nepotism runs the USATF. 13:20 guys coming out of college will still be left to fend for themselves.
How's he plan on paying for it? USATF at the youth level has become less and less relevant as kids are opting to compete in non-USATF events rather than pay the annual dues. The shutdown of competitions during COVID did nothing to help their cause. If their plan is to increase the fees on youth competitions and memberships, they might find their relevance greatly diminished. About $2 million of their $22 million in expenses in their most recent 990 filing was spent on lawyers, not athletes. Just sayin'.
