It's men. Men have power and historically have made women do things they would otherwise not do if not for male dominance and patriarchy.
My girlfriend says that it is uncomfortable but her team doesn't allow shorts.
At local schools where they offer a choice, maybe 85% of the girls choose the kun tuggers.

No one is forcing women to wear bikinis. If they wanted to wear the compression shorts of sprinters they could.

BYU ladies embraced the bun hugger movement early on as a push back against having to wear long dresses and skirts on campus. Good job ladies.
