It was 1995 the event that years Texas Relays, next event on the track the open/invitational 100m the favorites were Raymond Stewart and Carl Lewis. As usual the crowd was stoked and on their feet as the starter called the sprinters to their marks, set....BOOM!!!! Stewart had a slight lead around 70ish meter then here came........who?....some cat on the outside blew by Lewis and Stewart., made it look easy. Yep, Maurice Greene. This was the beginning to his legend, he is my best example of a.....Out of Nowhere....trackster.
I would find out later about his Kansas HS exploits and the fact his older bro Ernest was a 10.2ish at KCCC the JC Maurice attended but injuries had ruined that. So the first time we come in contact with him, those Texas Relays.
