The 10,000 to me was his best shot. In the last week we had the following developments:
-Jacob Kiplimo runs 7:29 with a 54-second last lap. Yes he lost but he went from scratching meets left and right going in to close to being peak fitness apparently. A big medal threat in the 10,000 and another guy to contend with in the 5.
-Berihu Aregawi subbed in for Mengesha in the 10,000. This one is awful news for Grant as it takes a guy he was 90-10 to beat to a guy who might beat him 9 out of 10 times.
-Selemon Barega replaces Telahun Haile Bekele at 5,000. While Bekele is no slouch, Barega is a beast and proven championship performer.
I guess on the positive sign for his chances Dominic Lobalu has confirmed he won’t be able to run the 5 at World and there will be Kibiwott Kandie in the 10 at Worlds.
Still I think Fisher went from 50-50 to medal at 10,000 to maybe 20-80 and he’s always been kind of a long shot in the 5,000.
