I just watched that video. He did that because he ran a 4:02 mile in his pro debut race and never wanted to embarrass himself again. I guess that’s how he was able to break through and run a 15+ second PR to run 12:51.
What did he say he does Sunday? Takes the day off. Smart guy. Smart coach. That's what enables him to rest enough to recharge for the Monday workout and recover enough to make gains in his fitness. Smart guy. All these guys not taking any days off usually have trouble recovering and making gains or get injured.
There's so much truth in Steve's last sentence. Your growth as an athlete is directly tied to your ability to recover from the last run, regardless of your talent or ability or accomplishments. Every athlete is going to have a different sweet spot, where they're pushing enough but not yet going over the falls and exceeding their ability to recover. Just cause you're fast doesn't mean your body can handle 100mpw, and just because 90% of pro's do something doesn't mean 100% of pro's should try. It take's a smart coach and a smart athlete to recognize that. SDSU, you are clearly neither.
That’s some B follows A logic. Probably 90% of elite runners run every day and your last sentence just isn’t true.

Why do so many good runners train every day? An easy over distance day actually is resting.

No, an over distance easy day is not actually is resting. Taking a day off actually is resting. A lot of East Africans do it. A lot more top distance runners take a day off each week than you claim. There is a lot of good research out there on the benefits of a rest day, not just from a musculoskeletal standpoint but from a hormonal standpoint. Why doesn’t every distance runner run six days a week? They’re type A. They want to train hard to be the best. They’re always looking to do more. They care about an arbitrary weekly mileage number. Mileage matters but only if you can stay injury free and absorb the training.
coming back from achilles problems - his season is over!! How many times do people have have to be told?! It isn't a conspiracy, lots of Canadians are injured this year - GDS, Seccafien, Knight, Lalonde, and others. None of whom will be at Worlds, which is why they were not at Nationals nor did they get a medical exemption (like DeGrasse, Ahmed and Warner) so were NOT named to the team. It is that simple.
No, he is not on the team. He will not run at Worlds.
Googled around, couldn't find out why. Any help? Assuming his Olympics times would be sufficient to qualify?
He ran 12:51 13 months ago, 13:04 at the Olympics in August. The World Standard is 13:13.
I believe he’s either still injured or recovering but not fit to compete. Despite times that would qualify him for WC he would still have had to race earlier this summer at a decent level to prove fitness and justify inclusion on the Canadian team. Unfortunately he wasn’t been able to do that and doesn’t seem to be talking about his fitness right now. He had an awesome 2021 and I hope he’s back to that level and better very soon.
