For guys, Cade Flatt has to be the best 800m ever. He holds the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, and 7th fastest times, and is only .03 off the record. We all know he could've gotten it since he let up at the line at US champs, so idrc that he didn't get it, and if he hadn't been holding back for the semi-finals, he would have. Regardless of whether you like him or not, I think he's shown he's the best.

Michael Granville had no help getting his record. Flatt is not the greatest half miler ever in my opinion. Granville also didn't enter a number of college or pro races to get his times. Flatt is way overhyped considering all the advantages he has and he still couldn't get it. To me, Gary Martin is the middle distance athlete of the year. Only boy this season who could go 3:58 by himself.

His age is clearly relevant. All of his top 10 times are at an older age than most on the list. It's just not the same as a Granville, Ryun or Kirsh.

Ovett, too was superior racer at his age. Can't be bothered to look up his times that was not Ovetts focus. I reckon Ryun n Ovett (without today's advantages) would be better.
People are forgetting how little this guy runs. I'm friends with his OB-GYN and he told me that he only runs 20 inches a month and he trains so little he needs a gel at halfway in an 800. This kid has talent.

This right here. Who cares? When you are 19 in Kenya, Uganda or UK noone cares if you are the best high schooler. At 19 people care how they are doing against the best in the country and against the best internationally.

Not only is he 19, he’s a mature 19. He looks a lot older than 19 - more like 25ish. He probably started shaving in grade school. He might improve but only marginally. He’s probably near his peak now. He’ll never make a senior National team and will just be a peripheral player. His genetics allowed him to be as good as he is now but his genetics will also be a limiting factor in the future.
Greatest high school runner. Not greatest potential or greatest runner ever. Ryun's college times don't count even if he was younger than Flatt.
You don't have to post if you don't care. Most of us care about high school running. You can follow Kenya 18 year olds on a different thread.
That may be true. Mary Cain's records count even if she didn't improve. Same with Slagowski or Maton. Same with Hutchins or Cook. Don't know yet just like Flatt. But that isn't the question.
