A bit confused at first that Whittaker is the second girl to break 2:00, Mary Cain being the first.
Will Whittaker continue to progress faster, or does she not have the same raw talent as Mu?
Either way women's 800 in the US is on an insane level

second high school * girl
When I see women that are not making the finals at USAs they need to retire NOW. The event is too good for some of these runners to stick around.
At 16, Mu ran 1:23 in the 600, beating Raevyn Rogers - worth sub-2, even for a sprinter.

...Around a month later she lost to an even younger Roisin Willis in the 800. Now I think Roisin Willis will be very good, but not world-level gold good.
Athing's HS 800 numbers should be ignored.
She got a shot to break Mu's CR.
However, no guarantee that she can run 1:55 which was what Mu did.
I'm not a pessimist, but no way in hell
As someone above mentioned, she ran a 1:23 indoor 600 as at 16 nearly breaking the world record
Mu is a very patient and mature runner who clearly prioritizes long-term development and performance. I don’t get the impression she really was chasing records when younger.
Mu will likely have the better career. By how much is yet unclear.

Athing Mu will go down as the greatest female (non DSD, non 1980's women on drugs) 800 runner in history.
However good Juliette Whittaker ends up being, she won't go down as the greatest of all time in either the 800 or 1500/mile.
Maybe as a professional Whittaker can get to the level of Raevyn Rogers, which would still be very impressive.
I honestly think Mu could break the 800 world record. kinda crazy to think a woman could have a shot at that while clean.
Whittaker is great but she doesn't have Mu's raw speed. That speed is what puts her on a different plan from everyone else. She can go through in 57 or 58 and doesn't feel it like they do. She's the closest to 1:53 or high 52 potential the world has without drugs.
true, Whittaker could probably beat Mu in the mile but probably won't come close to 1:55

Mu has to run 48.8 range, at least 49 flat in an open 400M, then she will have a shot at the 800M WR, in any case though, she will get into the 1:54s, but it is still a long way to the WR.
Whittaker depending on how hard they work her at Stanford will get stronger, if she stays healthy you have to think that 1:57 will come in the next year or so.
Whittaker has Keely problems just like every other woman in the world. If Mu is on her game, your opening lap is gonna be 57 at least and you better be able to hang and not die. Only 2 maybe 3 women in the world can do that right now.

Whittaker finishes her mile races which made the BroJos lose respect for her. They prefer runners who don't finish.

Whittaker is going to be competing mainly against college runners next year so she still has time before she has to worry about Mu and Keely.
whittaker has a horrible running form. lands on her heels, very short choppy steps. surprised her father hasn't tried to change that. she'll probably be better in the 1500
Willis will be the best of all of them.
I heard from my coach (who knows the family) that Whittaker's father ran a 1:48 in college. She's not going to hit that but her genetics are there

Yes, Whittaker's is very bad, but somehow she managed to run faster than all the high school girls with good form. I wonder how fast Whittaker could go with better form.
For those who don't know, Whittaker's father was a former top 800 runner himself as well as being a track coach and a physical therapist. Of all people he understands what's bad about her form, so I'm also surprised he didn't try to change it, but maybe there are some biomechanical issues that she has that don't allow her to change.
