I don’t know how you guys do it, holding speed for more than a lap.
I tried training for the 800 a couple of years ago and could only manage 2’16.
At 46yo earlier this year I ran a 52.54s 400m, down from 54.67s 2 years prior.
I really think you need to come from a distance background to run a good 800 and don’t think 400m is very relevant because you can run a good 400m without even running over 150-200m in training.

Not to say it can't be done, but at USA indoors earlier this Spring, 1 man over 40 broke 2:00. Philip Stead (40, former 1:50) ran 1:59.48. Fastest 45+ runner was 2:03.71.
