Been thinking for a while that if/when south sudan ever stabilizes and decides they want to focus on running, the record books for 800 and up will be reset. Think about the number of athletes in the top of their respective event, with the small sample of people who's families have had to move to other countries and probably are focusing more on surviving than becoming runners. Athing mu, peter bol, marco arop, lopez lomong, joseph deng, now this guy. The talent pool there is probably unmatched, and maybe we will see more as refugee's kids start to participate in sport as youth. Move over kenya/ethiopia
That would be correct. Barshim is from Sudan proper where the genetics are quite different. Sudan is mostly an Arab/black mix. Sudan spent decades fighting the southern Sudanese who they hated and looked down upon.
