Fought for athletes rights, which letsrun hates
Outspoken, had an opinion, which letsrun hates
Talked trash, was too cocky for letsrun
Failed to medal at Olympics, letsrun would call him washed up

STEVE PREFONTAINE GOES HOME DEVESTATED!!!
Pre was just Cade Flatt with a PR team.
Letsrun has always hated Pre. If he was alive today nothing would change.

People are critical because he died drunk driving, if he didn't die that would ameliorate that.
Pre would be a very popular topic of conversation with his supporters and haters
It depends on whether Pre would have become a nutter racist right winger with age, in which case he would be idolized by all of the Brown Shirts on LRC.

If he did, I’m pretty sure he would keep it to himself. What makes you that could happen anyway? I was around when he was competing and he seemed to be a really good guy.
Prefontaine would have owned a bar starting in maybe 1978, 1981 if he hung around for the Moscow games, and would have been anonymous to all but the most fervent of OU fans over 40 years ago.
Age/lifestyle may have done him in by right about now.
If Pre were alive today, he'd have been banned for life by SafeSport in 2019.
Judging from the threads I've read here the last few years, LetsRun already hates the guy. I think this is mostly out of a libidinal desire to be contrarian. Personally, I find contrarianism for its own sake to be cringe and think that Pre is pretty cool. If we had a college-aged kid take 4th in the Olympic 5000 today we'd be rightfully psyched about it. I also like Craig Engels.
Depends, was he older than average? Even by a week?

Not sure if letsrun would hate him, but I sure as hell bet he'd hate the sh*t out of the armchair critics on LRC.

I don't think they had birth certificates then
Pre would not have given a crap what any of you thought then nor think now of.
But if you need to debate, come meet at the starting line of his memorial run this September in Coos Bay.
Does Letsrun talk about any other 4th placed Olympian?
Nobody would mention him ever.
Exactly.
Craig Virgin is more accomplished than Pre, and doesn't get mentioned here very often.

He would have made a fortune with Nike.
True he finished 4th at the 72 Games but that was an awesome race. He gave it his all. Just got beat. Pre was a great champion and competitor.
he apparently hated to train though brah
