Maybe. But that’s a lot of hassle and expense to go compete in the NIT. I’m guessing runninglane will become a high-quality, but highly regional invitational at best. At worst it’ll fold.
But teams that don’t autoqualify for NXN but think they have a very good chance of getting an at-large should probably not risk signing up for RunningLane.
I think the due dates for registration might be before At-large teams are announced
Runninglane should move to a early/mid season race and make an effort to invite talent. Not everyone would come, but the fast times and competition would definitely attract some.

This. RunningLane, if you’re reading this, you should try and make the best regular season meet of champions since Great American circa mid-2000s. Heck, maybe even partner with NSAF to being Great American to the course in Huntsville. Great American used to be THE MEET in early October - they would routinely get the best teams from out west to travel cross country to race folks from the east. Anyone who has been to the meet in the last 5 years or so knows it’s dropped off significantly. Time to move on from the course in Cary, get new management involved and to Make Great American Great Again
There is already a regular season meet at the course called The Southern Showcase. As for who would go to running lane over NXN, some states have state meets that conflict with the NXR qualifying meet. I know the Louisiana state meet is only 4 days before NXR, very hard for those teams to race two quality efforts (not to mention it’s a lot of travel for high school kids) in that time span. They might just prefer to race state and then go to Running Lane
NXN announced for the same date as Runninglane. Does that mean the end of relevance for Runninglane XC? Who would go to Runninglane over NXN and why?
Newbury Park's coach said that RunningLane was such a fun experience for his team, that even if NXN came back this fall they still might go to RunningLane instead.
And there will be other top teams that go to RunningLane just so that they can run a faster time than they can run at NXN.
In 2023, the "national championship" will be whatever race Newbury Park decides to run. It's doubtful they go to RunningLane, but if they did then some other team winning NXN and standing on the podium being presented as the national champion would be downright embarrassing. And it is not a case of you can only beat the other teams in the race if you knew ahead of time that NP was going to RL. You want to be the best, you have to beat the best, and you have to chase them wherever they go to prove it. Otherwise you are just a pretender winning the title of best pretender. Congratulations on that.

So, pay for a trip to Alabama just to face NP or get a paid trip to the Nike show in Portland? I really can’t imagine a team passing up NXN just because NP goes to RL.

I wonder in Newbury Park would have 7 guys under 15 minutes again.
5 that already did that are coming back. Cantu can do it there too. But their 7th is looking to be pretty far back.
So I’d say only 6 would break 15 minutes there this year.
Having taken our team to Running Lane last year, and seeing firsthand how hard the meet staff was to making this event special for every athlete and spectator, RL gets my vote. Nike bailed on everyone for 2 years, while RL filled the gap. Nike will totally struggle to get 1/30th the crowd and excitement throughout the day as RXN! Running Lane all the way, baby!
Sean Brosnan, commit to RL and get other top programs to commit, as you did last year!!

Teams wanting to attend nxn would still have to pay for a trip to a regional meet and place top 2 to earn a trip to nxn. If they choose to attend runninglane, they pay for that meet and are guaranteed a chance to race.

For nearly all the teams I agree. But if there are any teams that really believe they have a shot at beating them, and they want to become one the great legends of high school cross country for doing it, going after NP seems worth it. But it is a real possibility that if NP is healthy that not a single school in the nation feels they have even have even a small enough change to do it.
According to a person who would know, he said Newbury Park coach Sean Brosnan already said they are all in for Nike. Same person said most top coaches have already said Nike too.
