What is the team? Who has the standard?

So is the top 3 going to the world championships or are they taking Teare, Gregorek and Nuguse. Davis probably doesn’t have a high enough world ranking cuz he is stuck running college races which world athletics give like zero bonus pts for compared to diamonds league races

Teare = standard

Thompson = quota

Gregorek = standard and in ranking

Scratch that - holt might make the team over Gregorek, if this performance gives him enough points to elevate in the world rankings quota, according to Merber. June 26 (tomo) is the close of the window, so he has more time.

In a slow race like this the bonus points are useless. Most of the score is still coming from your time.

Jason Lunn, who was knocked out of the semis after almost everyone from the heats were advanced to the semis (24 out of 27).

Lunn’s lifetime PR is 3:36.38.
Made it in with the B standard, which only allowed the US one entrant.
3:34.90 was the A standard to allow multiple athletes. No American hit the standard that year.

You actually think Teare/Thompson/Gregorek is the same as Hocker/Centro/Nuguse?

You have 5 HS kids who break 4 and these guys run a slower equivalent at USATF. Color me UNIMPRESSED. These guys all think they have the greatest kick. IF you saw Cooper Teare in NCAA Cross Country and you saw him today that is why you don’t give up folks.

It’s pretty wild how bad we were across most distance races back then. When Jorge Torres made the 5000 final at that same WC, it was a freakin’ miracle, and he just ran at the back the whole final. After Johnny Gray retired it was rare to see Americans in any 800 final for about a decade. We’ve been in worse spots to be sure.

Um yes. Hocker may have been slightly better than Cooper is this year but Centro is done and Nuguse obviously has nothing to offer. Thompson and Gregorek are better

No Hocker got 6th and Teare has almost no chance of doing that. Thompson and Gregorek probably could not make the UK team. They are not good.

2003 was the bottom.
Webb went pro that year but was out of sorts going back to his high school coach.

Then he exploded in 2004, dominating the Trials.
But they had to go to the semis to get a third qualifier as only 2 men in the final were able to get the A standard.

2005, Webb made that crazy move on the backstretch. Then faded.

2007, Webb set the mile AR and Lagat won the Gold. Manzano made his first team.

2008, Webb was fifth at the Trials and the US was getting deep.

2009, Bronze for Lagat

2011, Bronze for Centro

2012, Silver for Manzano,

2013, Silver for Centro

2016, Gold for Centro

At this point, the US would routinely have ten guys under 3:35 flat.

2021, young Hocker looked pretty good.

People don’t know how bad the US 1500 depth was in the 90s and early 2000s.

Eh, it’s not an unusually bad team. There were years we had Centro and two jokers. Teare is a top 10 world middle distance runner. He will be competitive.

Teare is NOT a medal threat. This is the worst team in a generation. Cooper ran Teareifically but I consider it Teareibble that this Tearen of events has led to the Tearemination of any chance at a U.S. medal.

What is the ranking Holt would need to make it? He’s like 73rd now.
