If there’s not a change in residence, does an athlete retain eligibility after transferring schools?

Well in that case, they would have to be forced to run JV during the regular season races, but they will be allowed to run with their top 7 during post season meets including NXR, NXN, and RunningLane. Easton Allred was in this situation in 2018 and a couple of Valor Christian girls were in this situation in 2019.

There’s just a 30 day sit out period.

Can we have a Newbury Park free week?

Could be different in southern section but in my section you need to sit out an entire season. Not sure what the CIF state-wide rules around it are.

NP does have some runners who went to other schools in the past.

Martinez went to Oaks Christian in Fall 2019.

Nathan Porter went to Westlake freshman year.

I found an Arnav Shetty that ran CC in 8th grade for a school in Illinois in 2019. Might be the same one that goes to Newbury Park.

The Sloan brothers (Jonah - junior and Noah - freshmen) ran for Lady of Assumption MS in 2019. Not sure if that school associates with Newbury Park. Can’t find that middle school in Newbury Park’s district.

You mean all those Newbury Park kids aren't actually from within the high school boundaries? I thought it was just something about living there that made them so good. You're not implying that Newbury Park would (gasp) actually recruit kids to come to their school?

The Conejo Valley Unified School District allows for out of district transfers into CVUSD.

Because you can transfer in, doesn’t mean recruiting isn’t against the rules.

Let's be real. How long has this been going on in hoops or football? Seriously...who cares? What's best for distance runners? The best coach and situation. Most districts/school sites could care less about XC and track and do not put the effort out to enhance them. That should be illegal and it's a glaring waste of tax payer dollars when schools have programs, get some sort of funding and blow it off. If parents want the best for their kids...put them in the best situation. It's possible running at a high level could be a small portion of their life so let them do what they feel is best for this moment in time and create memories.

I have no problem with the open recruiting … but to claim greatest hs team even and then have kids from all over isn’t really a fair accomplishment. saratoga or fm basically won with kids who came from their one middle school - it’s fine what they are doing but don’t continue with the “greatest” ever conversation as your really just building a club team at a hs

There is nothing wrong with families making what they think is the best decision for their kids and it’s not against the rules to follow the district guidelines for transferring.

Active recruiting by a coach or any representative of the team (parents, team members, etc) to influence enrollment is against the rules. You may think the rule is dumb, not agree with the rule , have justifications for breaking the rule or think breaking a rule isn’t a big deal, but it is cheating. Teams that choose not to cheat can be justifiably upset when a competitor does cheat.
