It puts him #16 in the world this outdoor season, #2 among Americans. He also won the race over a deep domestic/regional field (Sean McGorty 10th in 3:36.85, Kessler and Ferlic 11th/12th), moving from 8th to 1st with a 54.9 last lap. It’s also just 3 tenths off his personal best.
Somebody running a 3:35 is back? Lol This is supposed to be good for a 1500 runner? Is this even top100 in the world? Holy geyzus

So he won over McGorty, a 5000/10000 guy, a high schooler, and a steeplechaser whos not even the fastest steeplechaser in the US? I don't get the excitement.
We all know he's a distant #3 in America. What are those converted mile times again?
interview was kinda weird. maybe he was just really relieved? doesnt seem like the most socially adept guy. you should go see some pictures of him as a freshman, give you some perspective lol

As a running alum, I know folks around the ND program. Nuguse is a goofy, shy science nerd who is sometimes embarrassed talking about himself. That’s the reason for the self-deprecating laughter. He seems vulnerable to soft tissue injuries. Last year it was a quad and this year it was a hamstring. I’m glad he’s healthy again. Go Irish and ex-Irish! As for Tennessee, I guess Carlson got a big salary bump and more autonomy, and fewer academic restrictions there. I’m curious to see if he can build the same tight-knit team culture in Knoxville. ND has gone all in on distance, throwers, and pentathletes the last 5 years in track - they have no sprinters or jumpers. Carlson did a great distance recruiting job, mostly with smart, Midwest kids. I don’t think most ND distance runners would want to go to Tennessee, but they better bring in a good coach quickly if they don’t want to lose what is a top 2 or 3 distance recruiting class. With the transfer portal they COULD lose those runners to other ACC schools - lotta great distance coaches now - or the Ivies.
