I was just looking at the NCAA 10,000m Results 28:12 won it and 29:09 was last. I know this is not the fastest NCAA 10,000m Championships winning time but is that the fastest last place finisher in NCAA Championship history? The spread was pretty impressive also 57 seconds from 1st to last is pretty solid. I remember years ago when I ran Nationals I was mid 29:00's and an athlete had a horrible race and ran 35 something and obviously qualified with probably a sub 30.

This is great and shows depth. OK most or even all of these guys are not going to break 27:00 or even 27:30 BUT if guys like this are invited to road races it'll pique the interest of the hobby joggers because it'll be Americans at the front of the pack.
Give these guys a shot and bring back the 10K road race as the "classic" distance.

Track and Field news has a section on their website where they list historical ncaa performance. They may have every single result on there. But they don't go back to last place - they just list top 8.
The always list the scorers. They note that up until the mid 1970s it was common for lapper runners to be excorted off the track.
But in looking at the results for the 10,000, here are the only years where 8th place was faster than 29:09.02.
1984, 1988, 1990, 1991, 19988, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2011 2014, 2021.
OP. I think you have to be correct about it being the slowest last place time ever but to prove it you'd have to find those results to make sure.

And the women had a 2:15 gap from 1st to last. The people who argue for the women's XC distance to increase should take a look at these results.

When I looked at the race results last night, I was as amazed as you at the depth of the field.

It proves that there is much more depth n men's running which means that the longer the distance a XC race is, the more separation that will occur for women which lowers the excitement while also increasing the time of the race.
