What will Nico Young place in the NCAA 5000m?

Love Nico but he might be the Grant Fisher of the NCAA. Always a bridesmaid, never a bride.

He will need a similar strategy and set a very fast pace early on to take the kick out of the field (or separate from them).

I must have missed when NXN was an NCAA race.

Could see him winning, but only if the race is fast and requires ~13:10s.

I'd take Beadlescomb over him especially with the wheels he's shown in fast 1500s/miles and closing out the indoor mile hard. Even though Nico Youngs gone 3:37 for 1500 I don't think we've seen him close in the low 50s that it would require for a championship yet. If Fay can pull off another Bryan Clay level kick then it'll be especially tough for him. However, does seem like Young can consistently beat whatever Stanford guy is thrown at him.

That being said, I'll say Young gets 2nd, and Beadlescomb gets the elusive title.

The fast last 1200 is almost always the better strategy if you can get someone else to set a respectable pace.

I guess winning the 2017 NCAA 5k title counts as being a brides maid for Fisher.

Do you Nico Young diubters have an example of him losing a race he should have won? If HS doesn’t matter, than we shouldn’t expect the other NP studs to ever win an NCAA championship. If Nur isn’t running the 5k, who is going to beat him? Are you saying Young is a choker?

Winning time should be in the low 13:20s or upper 13:10s. Gonna be similar to Nico's NCAA regional race where he leads from the front and tries to shake off as many people as he can. One or two people will get him in the last 200m.

Depending on how fast the pace is I expect Nico to push hard from 1600-800 out

Nico makes his move with 1k to go. Beadlescomb passes him with 120m to go and then Olin Hacker shocks the world by passing Beadlescomb FTW. 1. Hacker 2. Beadlescomb 3. Young, winning time 13:25.

Nico would need to really wind it up from a pretty far ways out. I think guys like Beadlescomb, Kioko and Hacker would go with him, but Fay will be lurking just off the pace and will close down hard over the last lap to take the win.

He’s not Alberto Salazar and has 3:37 speed. I don’t know why most of you are so down on him. He has Rupp level talent and has a great future in distance running.
