Looks like Kenya's dominance in the event can no longer be assumed.

I figured that was the case when El Bakkali and Girma went 1-2 at the Olympics and Kenya only put one in the top 9.
Kenya is not reloading at the steeple as they are at 800/1500 yet. They have serviceable guys in Kigen and Kibiwot, but there isn’t the same pipeline/depth as you see in the other events.

There hasn't been dominance since Conseslus Kipruto got put out of commission. But it's coinciding with a general cyclical dip in form for Kenya after almost a decade of dominance over Ethiopia, as the Ethiopians seem to be churning out better, deeper fields in most track events while Kenya seems to have stagnated, relying on old established stars. There seem to be no replacements in the horizon for Vivian Cheruityot, Geoffrey Kamworor, Faith Kipyegon, Tim Cheruityot, Beatrice Chepkoech and Conseslus. The challenge would be to translate the juniors (who did well at the World U20s) to viable senior stars.
There's also the small matter of talents like Norah Jeruto and Winfred Yavi running for Kazakhstan and Bahrain. Except for Sifan Hassan, Ethiopia never seems to lose its best.

In addition to Girma's great run, it was good to see fellow Ethiopian Amare arriving in 8:07 for PB. He ran the last 2 laps almost unarmed and giving it his all
I think you are a little too down on things for your beloved Kenya. They seem to be forming a new potential dynasty in the 800 with a wealth of youth. Omanyala is a cool new performer giving a 100m star. They had Etiang run 3:33 as a teen at 1500 being in the same mix as Kipsang and Tim (both mid-20s) and Simotwo. Keter is reigning world junior champ though he's looked overmatched so far. The 5,000 has gone from the embarrassment of 2017 (one overmatched finalist) to now having probably around 5-7 guys who have sub-13 in the right race and are all pretty young. The world has gotten much stronger in the event and unclear if Kimeli, Ebenyo and Krop will be fast enough to medal (Chelimo basically out-physicaled Kimeli last year). 10,000 a bit murkier given that Rhonex, Kandie and Kamworor all have had injury concerns and might focus on the roads. Also can any of them kick well enough?

It could be his agent will realize he has too much talent for the querky steeple event , and get in position to run 15 and 5k. You need to be in a race with Jakob to make a name for yourself. You have this thread , I bet 99% of LRC don’t even know what he looks like .
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
