Pete gives him too much freedom, he’s even said in interviews that’s why he likes Pete. However thats clearly why he isn’t as consistent. The reason he flourished in college is because of the structure
I violated all journalism protocols and took a selfie with Craig in Eugene just yesterday, which I immediately sent to his HS coach, the great Chris Catton..

There is a fine line between not taking the sport too seriously and not taking it seriously enough as a professional runner. Engles seems to have lost the balance in the past couple of years
I would agree with that,,he has become way more a character, than a competitor, he still might be able to beat Murphy, that is a train wreck, I don't care about the 1:45.x weeks ago, a time he could run in his sleep years ago.
I was sitting three rows behind him yesterday. Dude is a rockstar! He very easily had 150-200 people asking for pictures and autographs during the meet. The best part is that he was totally wonderful to everyone that approached him. Seems like a really good guy.

Love Craig. Wish he could get a massif win under his belt n shut the haters up.
Dude is literally a US champ. 3:33 1500 PR, 1:44 800. Not everyone can maintain top form for long periods of time. Be happy for the highlights we do have from Craig, stop whining for more.
What’s often forgot is that Engels was really good at times last year. 3:33.69 PB beating some good guys, very solid Olympic Trials. 1:46 800 ftw in June 13:36 5k in February. In most years he would’ve made that team, but not making it has seemed to hurt his focus and this year we have a good indoor 800 nearly beating Kerr and nothing else.
