F**k
Thanks for the memories Matthew. You had a great career. Now it is time to move on.
We will never forget.

He ran 3:49 last year, didn't he? He's got more life in him.
He just might make the Paris 2024 team.
He’ll come back slow and aim to be competitive at USAs in 2023 but he will view the next two years as a long build to 2024, his final season. Frankly, the US mens 1500 isn’t looking overly competitive and an 85% centro can still snag a team spot.
As we saw at the Olympic Trials last year, except for Hocker, Centro is still head and shoulders above all the other American milers. Probably not a medal threat anymore.
Maybe his coach shouldn’t have him do stupid things like racing three heats of the 800 in one meet. It’s a shame that the burrito boys and girls are always injured.
burrito track club closing soon .... no more burritos

Reading his post means that if they had done a more thorough check at first and done the surgery, he would have been 3 months into his rehab now.

You obviously are Ill-informed about recovery from acl repairs. One of our best female sprinters, Abby Steiner, had a significant ACL injury not all that long ago. Albeit, she is a good bit younger than Centre, but athletes come back from ACL injuries all the time. Additionally, Copper & Cole have shown a few chinks in the armor this year. They’re good, but not invincible. Besides, the last I checked, 3 athletes usually make an Olympic team for each event.
Once again, another stupid post wrote:

Additionally, it's not like the training and running that milers do is particularly taxing and causing a lot of torsion on the ACL or any of the other cruciate ligaments of the knee. Other athletic movments, like those that a soccer player, basketball player, football player, etc, would make, are much more demanding on the knee. Plenty of those athletes come back after knee repairs. The rehab that is done today pretty much starts immediately post-op and is geared to get athletes back to training ASAP.
Age is obviously not on his side, but ACL returns are becoming more and more successful/quick. He could rebuild slow, jump some mileage and possibly be competitive in the 5k.
Could be a good time to make the leap

Watching that race always sends shivers down my spine.
Kiprop's big move on the last lap. Centro Willis and Mahkloufi kicking making everyone else look like they moving in slow motion. Centro's shocked face when he realizes he actually did it. Mahkloufi angry face at not getting gold. Willis so excited for Centro. Incredible race for the ages, will be showing my grandkids this someday.
