Travis Tygart believes that if they had handled Shelby’s case, USADA would have labeled Houlihan’s test an atypical finding rather than a positive test - also suggesting that a full investigation would have been done, if it was handled by them, and that the public would have likely never heard about Houlihan’s test because it would have been handled internally and would have more than likely never been labeled a “positive test.”
The reality is that WADA/AIU are not trustworthy governing bodies. They are extremely corrupt bodies, unlike USADA. They have political interests, to help European countries earn more medals (and ultimately keep Americans off the medal stand), because of intermixing IOC committee/council members together with their governing members.
And if you think USADA is looking to protect its own athletes, look no further than its work with WADA to bring the truth regarding both Lance Armstrong and Alberto Salazar.
If USADA had handled the case, the outcome would have been different and not because of a bias toward American athletes.
The fact that Tygart supports Houlihan is the single most important factor in the entire saga. It illustrates that he is aware of enormous problems which exist within WADA/AIU.
I’m not suggesting that all athletes should be tested solely by their home countries, but I am suggesting that USADA is a well run and honest governing body, unlike the one which banned Shelby Houlihan.
