Is there a harder team to make in world athletics than the Ethiopian women's 10,000m team? The quality and depth is off the scale. Every single entrant is a likely medallist in Eugene
Does Ethiopia have trials for other disciplines the same day (like last year)? And is it the usual no doubling rule? Been struggling to find info online.
That much travel isn't conducive to world records. I can recall only one really solid distance record attempt at Pre, Bekele's 26:25. However, staging the 5000m and 10000m the night before helps a lot because afternoon in late May in Eugene is not ideal for distance times.
Looking forward to this. Think Gidey will definitely be able to break her own WR, I wonder if we might even see a sub 14? If not I think she could get quite close to it. Interesting that Taye is there too, as a 14:14 athlete she's obviously capable of fast times, I'm sure she'll try her best to hang on to Gidey and give it a go herself.
As already mentioned though it is awfully close to Ethiopian trials. I had initially assumed we might see another WR go down there, but perhaps not. The Hengelo 10,000 should be a brilliant race if Gidey, Ayana, Tsegay and Yehualaw all show up in good shape. Taye will be making her debut at the distance and McColgan will be there too, should be a good one!

Bekele attempted in an actual race though...not a time trial for one person like Giday and Cheptegei's attempts this year

Taye is running 10? The World Leader over the half is more of a threat.
