Jackson Heidesch of Dowling Catholic, WDM (Karissa Schweizer’s old stomping ground) cut in early on Ammon Smith of Iowa City High, who then pushed Heidesch to the track. Heidesch went rolling and initially finished last in 2:12, while Smith faded to 9th place but was later DQ’d. Heidesch dominated the 1600 a few hours later, running 62-62-62-60 for 4:07.3, and was granted a special “re-run” of the 800 at the conclusion of the meet, solo, where he clocked 1:54.62 to officially place 3rd. Smith was DQ’d from contesting any remaining events, namely the 4x4 final in which Iowa City High placed a distant last place.
Dowling Catholic won the team title (93 points) with Iowa City High 2nd (63.5).
