Just saw this result on twitter but cant seem to find result. Fantastic running if she did. Better than breaking 4 min for the mile for the boys I would think.
looked great doing it too. didnt realize there was such a quick turn around between the 8 and the mile. thought she was going to pull off the crazy double. looked strong enough to do it too. And Gorriaran ran 2 flat behind her. so many fast high school kids these days...

Amazing. #2 all-time in both the boys and girls high school 800m runs in the same meet. This crop of girls' 800m runners is the best ever, Whittaker now under 2, Willis and Gorriaran at 2 flat already. That was fine racing from Whittaker and she won that race, despite coming into the race with just a 2:01.
But Fastwomen has tried again to create a “woman issue” out of this on Twitter. Luckily there was an adult in the room who took the higher ground. Gary Martin stepped in as a HS kid and handled the situation like a pro. Many people have congratulated Gary on how he handled this but NOT Allison.
Y'all better make a huge deal about high school senior Juliette Whittaker running 1:59.80 in the 800m. This is bigger than a HS boy running a sub-4:00 mile, given that 14 have done it, while only two U.S. girls have broken 2:00.
There's much less aerobic development--which requires years to accomplish--in the 800m, so you could predict better times in the 800m than mile in high school, relative to the world's best. Just look at the sprints. A sophomore girl ran sub 11 in the 100m. On the other hand, the mile gets a lot more focus in the U.S. in high school from the top middle distance runners--who don't tend to focus as much on the 800 but just run one or two, so you're more likely to get top 400-800 people than 800-1500. But there's no doubt this is the best group of hs girls in the 800m that we have ever had. Whittaker was third best until this race. 1:59 is good enough that it would have made a good number of U.S. teams in the past, whereas 3:59 (3:41 1500m) wouldn't do that except in a sit and kick--and that athlete would be easily outkicked.
Fast, and some other highschool senior male almost "broke" 800 highschool record. Personally, if your senior track season is over, i.e. state meet has past and your not in a post season all highschool meet before you graduate, I would suggest you didn't break any highschool record. I say the same for all these "records" run in mixed races with non-highschool runners. Just my opinion. Whittaker is not a senior so doesn't apply as much to her. Regardless, fast is fast!

again NO ONE DISAGREE
but with words like “Y’all better”
Yes, a stupid twit from them. This isn't about gender or sex or whatever. Whittaker got as much attention as that rascal Flatt.
HS sub-4 mile is a known big thing, even as it has become more common. When a HS woman goes sub-4, that will be a huge deal.

Whittaker is most definitely a senior.
Sophia Gorriaran who ran 2:00.65 (#5 all time) is the one who is a junior and still only 16. She might end up with the record before she graduates next year.
Her and Willis going to Stanford potentially a big mistake. The mens team there has had a lot of success but outside heymach (who got started under Miltenberg) their team mostly consists of high ranked high school recruits who flamed out. If you talk to anyone who’s spent any time around members of the staff or team you’ll hear all sorts of things. She wouldn’t be the first high school star to flame out if it happens, but I hope I’m wrong.
