Flatt delivered on his promise to let it all hang out...100% effort no matter what. Wasn't an ideal situation but he still delivered on that promise and nearly got the record. 2nd all time .06 away is awesome.
What is a Richardson?
Lol such a lame answer. That's the shot he's been calling? "I'm going to try my best"?
Is it only in America that we are so obsessed with times at a certain age or times at a certain level of school? What exactly is the physiologic difference between a 19 year old and a 21 year old. Flatt looks like a full grown man without much physical maturity left to go. Maybe he’ll get a lot faster, maybe not. Colin Sahlman looks like a scrawny HS kid, so he looks to me like he’s got a lot more chance for advancement. It’s really not the age, that’s just a surrogate.
What an assinine statement. He's scrawny because he has an eating disorder (like others at NP) and is overtrained so his body wont develop. Flatt will get the record this year but he'll be dragged round in a pro race whereas Granville did it in a high school race front runnung. Not a real comparison in my opinion
How are garbage posts like this allowed to stay up? Accusing a kid of having an eating disorder, despite no proof in the slightest that its even remotely real.

Dozens upon dozens of pros claim they're going for a record and fall short. This the first time I see such happiness for a runner falling short, but also spite and hate towards said runner at the same time. I wonder why?
So close to the national record. He will get it this year

It's definitely a US thing. The classic little league mentality that holds athletes back in all sports once they age out.
Couple of things, I watched the race, first time I had seen him. He is very impressive. Did he say in the post race interview "It was a nice win"?? Or did I mis hear that?
It looks like the birthdate info you provided would be accurate, in that case, he is clearly on the older side of HS running, about 4-5 months worth? There are plenty of folks turning 18 into their Senior years in Sept/October. This stuff used to be a big deal to me, however in these days when you have 23-24-25 year olds(5th AND 6th year guys) beating up on 18/19 year olds in the same college window, I no longer care that much
He did go a little conservatively could have connected to the back of the lead pack at 51. mid?
He’s not on the old side. He’s a full year old. He’s 10 months younger than Brandon Miller. He’s 15 months older than Centro & German at the same grade.
In either case, the crazy thing is I’m still much more excited about Sumner long term.
Marshall County High School (KY) Senior Cade Flatt is not afraid to vocalize his intentions to break the U.S. high school 800m record of 1:46.45 when he race...
Flatt is good but he is a total dbag. I'm usually pretty tolerant but am already rooting against this guy. He makes Everett Smulders and Everet Silva seem pretty inocuous.
Will Sumner tonight runs US top 10 time at 1:49.3. A lot of years this has won nationals across the last twenty years, however this year proves the 800M is a marquee event at the HSB and HSG levels.
It had stopped raining by the time Cade Flatt raced but the track was covered in water.
On a dry track with it just a little warmer and this record is gone.
This kid is just built different. There's athletes that just got it.
just wanted to point out something counterintuitive to majority of people. the track and environmental/weather conditions were actually conducive to very fast running.
it is not atypical to see very fast times run right after it stops raining.
that being said, i could see him pop a sub-1:45 this summer if the stars align.
Agree with this. I was there too, there were puddles on the track, he went out a little bit too slow, and he got stuck in traffic the final 200m. A cool, dry night with a faster first lap and he's easily a 1:45 guy.
