I see Oregon only allows athletes to run 2 races of 800m or longer at states even though it is a two day meet and there are no prelims. That seems ridiculously restrictive. Do other states not allow the "distance" triple at the state meet?

Virginia’s rule is unlimited field events and 3 track events unless one of the track events is the 3200, in which case only one other track event is allowed. Heavily favors sprint/field schools.
In a two day meet, they may compete in the 3200 plus one other event on one day and an additional event the other day. Unfortunately, the only distance event on a separate day at the state championship is the 4x8.
I ran the quad at the state meet. 4x8, 1600, 800, 3200.
All in about 2.5 hours. In 90 degree heat.
Ouch. I don't recommend.
In WI when I was running (2004-07) the rule was no more than 4 events total, with a maximum of 3 being of one type. No special rule for distance. So you were capped at 3 running events and your 4th had to be a field event (or 2/2, 1/3, etc.) I was a 4x800,1600,3200 workhorse my senior year and had a great time doing it.
Colorado used to be that way, but they moved away from it. Probably cost me a podium finish one year as my coaches thought they could get in a 4x8 relay, and all my teammates ran like they were hungover at the qualifying meet.
Here in Utah most of the top guys will do a 3200 and 4x800 the first day and 1600 800 the second day and some will turn around and do a 5k 4 days later
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
