He actually did run an outdoor mile this season but…..a 4:14.

He should spend less time trying to get Youtube famous. I think that threw him off the master plan.

He's going to be another Andy Powell. Near sub 4 high school sensation who never breaks through.

The guy is 18... Nobody at 18 is done unless he said so.
Maybe he' s focusing on other stuff than training. Or maybe he is stagnating a bit, but in that case things can change and he has plenty of time to turn things around.

His mile and 800 are equally good. If I lived in Florida and was equally good at two distances, I'd focus on the shorter one this time of year.

The 4:01 is far more impressive to me than the 1:48.

Florida states were just last weekend. He ran 1:48.52 to win by about 2 seconds. To win states, you have to run five regular season Florida meets--only certain meets count--and then run districts, regionals, and states. That's a minimum of eight meets right there. I have no idea what he's doing after this, but my bet is that he'll run a few postseason meets, as he has in the past (the 4:01 was in August, just before school started for his junior year). I assume he'll go after the sub-4 mile and try to get into a fast 800m as well, because he's won by a good deal in every 800 he's run this year, I think. I bet he goes 1:47 with competition, and 3:57 in the mile.
