I mean they could, but they won't. Young adult hormone levels are crazy coupled with lots of insecurity and the push from movies and media that promiscuity is good means that most won't. This isn't a comment on Roe vs. Wade just pointing out your argument isn't realistic.

Out of wedlock children is the primary concern. Many abandoned children are from couples who are not married. I believe it should be a crime for a couple to breakup and leave the minor aged kid in a situation for an adverse childhood experience. But then again, there's also bad that occurs from a toxic relationship that's maintained. People need to make better decisions and take accountability for their mistakes and failures as parents. Bad parents are able to get away with far too much.
And yet again another reason the backdoor is there.

I'm 36, so I think I'm already of age to "understand the depth of what transpired." I'm well past the age where I'm relying on my parents for my basic needs or for any kind of material support, so I guess I'd be disappointed in the guy, but it wouldn't meaningfully change my life.

I get your point but making it illegal to breakup is going to put the murder rate through the roof!
Even good couples can have toxic patches. Bad couples simply can’t coexist. As bad as the other options for the child are the parents who hate each other being forced to be together by law would likely be the worst environment for a child to be in.
stuff can get really bad in relationships. sometimes both people can even be great people individually but together turn toxic.
relationships are complex as hell. lol
Three kids with the same woman? Three different women? Did he really pay nothing to support them after he fled? What country? More context helpful. But generally, not the best situation for the three strays. At least you had him as a present dad though, apparently. I might find myself curious about my half siblings.

I'd be praying to the gods I hadn't inherited his traits, or a personality disorder.
I'd actively avoid sleeping around or having multiple women on the go to avoid it happening to me.
I'd be preparing myself to find out about more kids with more different women that he's abandoned.
Would probably minimise contact with him if not already done so.
Would not let him near any kids I might have later, in case he somehow influenced them.
I would shrug my shoulders and wonder what was for dinner.
My father abandoned 3 children, one 9.5. one 1.5 (myself) and one about to be born in 2 weeks. I found out five years ago he married another woman and lived the good life in New York City. Never ever made contact and we had no idea if he was alive or where he lived. My Mother was a survivor of Auschwitz and Mauthausen concentration camps and was too traumatized to care for us. A lot of scars to overcome.
I would approach him and ask about any special talents or skills he may possess and use that info as a guide to my future pursuits. Imagine finding out that the father you finally meet in your adulthood was a 2:10 marathoner !
