Is Brenda Martinez retired/injured?

I remember she got popped for PEDs or anti depressants or something back in 2020 and that's the last I've heard.

Brenda will be 35 this fall. She is finished as an elite runner.

Her doctor gave her a prescription for a medical condition that she has. When she went to the pharmacy to fulfill the prescription, they gave her medicine from a pharmaceutical company that the pharmacy didn't realize had illegal added a substance that was on the track and field banned list. She was cleared of any wrong doing.

Not really popped. Tainted antidepressant and was able to prove she's clean.

She still seems to be doing workouts and all that. I thought she might have a kid soon. Maybe some meets here and there, and call it a career.

I heard that the original plan was for her to make this her last year of competitive running, in order to make one last run at a global championships team, since it's the first time it's been held in the United States.

However, based on how she ran last year which was mediocre, even if she trains as hard as she can she has zero shot at making either the 800 or 1500 team.

It seems that the main reason she is still technically still a "professional" runner is in order to continue collecting checks from her sponsors. She had a solid career, but she is past her prime.

Kind of miss Brenda. Hardly anyone gets tripped or falls over now. She was worth having on the card for entertainment value.

It looked to me like Martinez had a longer stride than most, and other runners would misjudge and cut in front of her without leaving enough space.

Yes she was a blast to watch race, knowing any second there could be a pileup.

Too old now. 800/1500 is so competitive now days. Wasn't she and her husband coaching other runners?

I remember watching her training videos and thinking she trains pretty long distances for an 800m runner.

I’m curious as to why she never stepped up in distance, she seemed to train like a 5k runner.

Yeah, She supposedly ran 4 mile "tempos" at 5:05 pace, yet the few times she tried giving the 5k a try, she barely broke 16.

She wasn't just a 800 runner. She ran plenty of 1500's.

In her prime she was tough as nails, lots of grit. She will be missed on the circuit.
