Can I run with a baton in non relay races? California penal League runner!

Honestly I think the schools have some silly rule against having guns at school events... It's ridiculous but

Honestly I don't really want to run with a gun anyway because I don't want to accidentally shoot someone

I seriously just want to be able to run with my baton... And this is a serious question because I really like having the baton and I'm just so used to it and I do feel just in case someone attacks me at least I can hit them with the baton

So anyone know for real?

Probably been to a 1000 track meets at all levels, have never seen anyone need a baton to protect themselvs from anything.

I did see Don Quarrie run a 4x1 without the baton, he was a clubber now so he ran with former fellow USC Trojan Willie Deckard after his team had dropped the baton, yep he eased off just before the finish, smiles all around.

Would like to own that baton Hayes tossed sky high in 64.

What do the officials actually say to you? Do they cite a rule? You should have a copy of the rulebook at the start of the race and demand that they highlight the exact rule they are enforcing! You can then take it up with the governing Athletic association! You also might want to claim some sort of handicap, like get a doctor to write a note that you need the baton to balance your physiology!

I've noticed that people are less likely to cut me off and give me more space in the races where I have had the baton...

The officials just make jokes that I am insane! It's totally unprofessional!

If people can run with glasses, you can run with a baton... Don't let people push you around...

Honestly it's not a bad idea. I'd like to see more athletes running with various memorabilia... What about headphones... I wish they had earbuds when I ran put a pair of those babies in and just Cruise...

Stick the baton in the back of your shorts, blouse your bib over it then pull it out once the race has started. See if officials make you stop.

I once explained to my caoch that the only way I hop in a sprint was if I could carry my pole in my hands. I'm so used to it, I can't run without it. Unfortunately, it was a 200 he wanted me to fill in for and I got kind of fatigued about 80m in and (as I was in lane 3) my pole began to tilt and swing wildly and I knocked over half the field.

Tell the officials you self identify as duo-male and the baton is actually your second male organ. If they don't let you carry it they will be violating California law against discrimination based on gender identity.

Just say it is for emotional support. Feel like there are more important things in life than having a problem with this.

When track had the standing broad jump, they had to outlaw holding weights because people could get better momentum by swinging the weights. Your baton might give you a competitive advantage by giving your arm swing more centrifugal force, or maybe you have a secret gyro-copter hidden inside the baton. It likely doesn't help, but if you think it does, then it does.
