I could see Teare getting close to 3:30 barrier or under this year. Hocker ran 3:31 last year after rounds, and Teare seems to have his number in fast races. This new era of fast championship 1500s will suit him well.
Michael Stember from Jesuit wins the 1600m (1995). Set the state meet record until it was broken by Ryan Hall in 2000 (4:02). Wait for it - don't close the w...
Another week where the oregon boys can't be bothered to fly to race other people, but still run faster.
Who cares? We aren't watching races. We are watching practice whether it's at some HS track in CA or at Hayward Field.
Why should we care if Teare runs a time trial in Cali or Oregon. He wanted the standard - he got the standard. Yes, from a fans perspective, it's a little easier if they do it at the same meet as it's easier to watch.
Look, I'm very critical that every big meet in the world is held in Eugene. It's boring and repetitive, but we can't take that argument down to insanity levels and start claiming that the future of the sport is to run time trials at a HS track in California.
Say what you want but a 3:34 in pouring rain is TOUGH, especially when he's more of a 5k guy. I'm glad he ran this instead of a tactical race at Sound. Plenty more meets to come! Bowerman mile is gonna be nuts.
Chelimo just ran a 3:41 in Nairobi? What should Teare focus on this summer, 1500 or 5000? 1500 still seems the easier path.
He should run the 1500 because he's better at it. I think he was pigeonholed early as a distance guy, but really the 1500 is a great event for him especially now that it's moving to faster races in championship settings.
1500 for sure. Nuguse just ran 3:39, Engels is nowhere to be found, Centro is a question mark, and Teare has been beating the defending champ all year.
5000m you have the defending Olympic Bronze Medalist, 12:53/26:33 guy in Fisher, and Kincaid has shown monster speed in championship races and appears fit already. 5000m is a way tougher path to make the team.
