Doesn’t look like it has in years past. Besides D’Amato in the 10k it’s looks relatively weak as far as the competition or am I way off?

You’re not way off. I was planning on going until seeing the entry list.
Stanford Athletics is huge machine that won the most Olympic Medals at Tokyo beating Legendary Olympic Quad rivals USC, UCLA, and UC Berkeley in this historic contest of the world's top Olympics medal universities. This year's PJ hasn't recovered from the pandemic yet. in Silicon Valley weekday morning rush hour traffic is still only 1/4th of what it used to be. Also elites are naturally drawn to SoundRunning.run meets in L.A. due to massive global media coverage from permanently stationed L.A. foreign press correspondents.
I've been to most of the Sound Running meets in the LA area and I hate to disappoint you but so far there hasn't been any "massive global media coverage" by any "LA foreign press correspondents."
The only reporters I've seen are Joshua and Aaron Potts from the "2 Black Runners" podcast. Do their 57 subscribers count as "massive global media coverage"?
This is typically a marquee 10k meet. With outdoor nationals having the event at Pre this year, folks likely don’t want to race two 10k’s within a month of each other. Sucks because the weather appears to be excellent again as usual.
What are you talking about???
I have a feeling that the outdoor USA Championships is now always going to have the 10k in May, a month before the regular USA Championships.
If that's the case then the 10k at Payton Jordan will never again be able to attract the top pro US runners.
I'm not aware of any Payton Jordan prize money in the past, if there is it's not much. The Sound Running race is shown on a pay per view type live stream with the majority of the money going to prize money for the athletes. That's why people are running there. Also it's a leaner meet with only a few races.
2 thoughts:
1) does d’amato have a shot at getting a worlds standard without anyone else in the race at her level?? Will there be a pacer?
2) the problem with having the 10k champs at a different meet is i think it makes it too easy to get on both the 10k and 5k team, when in reality it will be much harder to perform that double at worlds. I think you should have to prove you can be one of our top runners in both events days apart to ensure we our sending our best teams possible
My parents live in Palo Alto, and I’ve been lucky enough to visit when the meet is being held. I flew in from Florida via Houston and met the University of Tulsa team on the flight. They were going to run the 1500. I wished them well, and now I have to figure out how to go… it’s not really in the local paper out here, which is a shame. I hope D’amato runs well, too.
Yes, there are few top-flight performers this year but it is still a fun meet to watch.
Oh, and Henrik Ingebrigtsen is a late entry in the 5000m. Should be interesting to see how he does after his injuries the past few years.
You know it wasn't a serious post, right?
Spencer is in the 1500. Looking back, seems he's lost a lot of speed. We'll see, I guess.
Stanford goes 27:40, 27:42, 27:47 in 10K
