1. DNA evidence: easier to catch someone the first time they kill.
2. Cameras are EVERYWHERE, see above
3. Large database of crimes, finger prints, evidence
4. Digital communications- most people are killed by someone they know or have been in some contact.
5. Cell phone pinging off of different towers.. easy to trace and put someone in the location.
There are serial killers who exist today. Where did you get the idea that they no longer exist?

Exactly this. Short version, it's WAY harder to commit murder and get away with it than it used to be.
The liberal agenda has turned men soft. We used to have testosterone-fueled serial killers all over the place. Now most of them are probably wearing p*ssy hats and drinking soy lattes because the lib media tells them that violence is "toxic." Sad to see. This country is falling apart.
They’ve been replaced by single event mass murderers with more fire power.
They're either so good they don't get caught or they get caught very early on due to those factors.

How would you characterize the US military?
They exist. It’s just that none have recently decided to turn themselves in, which is how many of them are “caught”.
Ever have an enjoyable hobby? Some of the most rewarding aspects of one are doing lot's of reading and research to improve your game. We will get an occasional low hanging piece of fruit, but the skilled killers need to get unlucky to be caught
There are lots of serial killers today. Many of them refer to themselves as "OB/GYNs."
Today we call them "incels," and given improved firepower, they are far more efficient at racking up kills.

I think this is exactly it. It’s the same psychotic narcissism that drives both of them. Serial killers used to get newspaper and tv stories written about them. Now the mass murders get tons of online attention.
The liberals took all the lead out of our gasoline, that's why.
Do you think it would have changed something in the O.J. Simpson case ?
(assuming everything stays the same)

are you asking if I think that if there were a Ring Doorbell camera video of him cutting her head off and stabbing Ron Goldman, do you think OJ would have walked?
Maybe not, but that was straight up jury nullification. He was black, she was white and the black jury was not going to send a black man to jail.

This is a pretty solid list. It was just a different world in, say, the 70s and 80s when serial killers seemed to be more common. Mass shootings are the in vogue crime for the nuts who might have been serial killers 50 years ago. They know they won’t escape detection for long with individual murders, so if they’re going to be caught or killed by police at some point, they try for the “many victims in one go” approach. And that’s not to say there no mass shootings in the old days (U of Texas clock tower shooter, for instance), but the above list has to be at least partly a factor in why people choose mass shootings instead of something more secretive and drawn out.
Easy access to porn and weed.
A quick Google search will show you that there are a number of suspected active serial killers and also a number of serial killers in general who just don't make the news.
