September birthday. Slightly on the old side for being a freshman.

I announced the race. Keegan led most of the way, passed by lane hoyes who held on to his heels. Keegan closed in 60 point.

A paper in KY says he set a 3200m record for a 9th grader ... the previous record was 8:58.

The 8.53 is a superior mark that is within his reach. He should target a meet where he can do a full 2-miles.

It's not that hard.

He's old for a freshman. My son is also a freshman and never ran him in youth track because he's a 2006 birth year and mine is 2007. I know he was already 15 for his freshman XC season.

His times have always been a bench mark for my kid to go after, just a year later! Keegan has always been an exceptional runner.

This is phenomenal - even for an "older" freshman. I ran 9:20 for two miles at age 14 and while I did not think it was that good compared to the then incomparable Eric Hulst, I don't recall ever running a race with any freshman competitors. Just very impressive.

It's normal for a kid to turn 15 during their freshman year. That doesn't mean he did a kindergarten redshirt. He's in the appropriate grade if he turned 15 during his freshman xc season.

If he was 15 during his 8th grade track season, then that's a different story. Is that what you're saying?

Letsrun is notorious for getting this wrong. Most are bad at math or just don't understand because theyvwere young for their grade. Kenny B turned 20 the same year that he graduated HS. That is old. But he still competed.

Yeah, I don’t know what this “old” business is. I’m an October birthday and my kids have September & October. Perfectly normal. Guess you could say they are not the “young” kids just as easily.

Typically a grade consists of kids born as soon as August of one year and as late as July of the next.

So if he turned 15 his freshman year in September… that is normal.

You people just don't get it. There's a huge developmental difference between 13, 14, 15, 16 year old boys. Just a few months difference in age at this stage can make such a huge impact on times.

Let's look at this year's senior class. Now go back to their 9th grade year and check their milesplit rankings. Without even looking I'm sure those 9th grade rankings were littered with kids born in 2003. So where are they today? How many kids born in 2004 have passed them up now?

Now back to the present. There's currently a freshman and a sophomore in this country both at about 8:52 for 3200m. Their birthdays are just a couple months apart. Who's the more impressive prospect? No one knows. You just don't know.

How often does the #1 freshman in country end up being the #1 senior in the country later on? I bet it's not often.

This is 8:52. Any kid under 18 runnig that is one of the fastest of all time. It doesn't mater if he is 16.
