A 3:38 in Ohio in April would be pretty huge, based on his winter and how it looks like his training block has gone. Maybe some of the other VNTC guys will help push the pace, but Kessler has the top seed time, so it isn't like he's going to get towed to a really quick time like his 3:34.
I'm hoping for a solid opener out of him, but I'll honestly be impressed with anything under 3:40 since I don't think his training has him near any sort of peak.
I think 3:43 or better would be fine, there is no one to push him in this. There is no reason to run any faster with doubling back for extra work in the 800. They are in the "long game" here he just turned 19.
Every runner in high school who breaks 4 minutes is not necessarily a miler..look at Grant Fisher!! If Hobbs does not run atleast a 3:55 mile his coach should start training him for the 5k
He kind of had a so so indoor season and seemed a bit frustrated but I think he's capable of really ripping a fast time if in good shape! I predict 3:35 give or take.

I think you're right in that it's more the eyes test for Hobbs than the actual time. If he's mowing away the competition with a fast last 300 --> encouraging sign. But if not, I'd be a tad worried about this being a lost year as he adjusts to being a pro.
3.35 in Ohio in April? Why? This is a rust buster, nothing more. Times matter not. When you're not in the NCAA, going to meets like this is actually really important racing practice for running prelims at USA's and major championships. If it goes out in 2.10 through the 800m? Great!
Thanks for injecting some reality into this Nick. Why do people care so much what times he's running right now in April? So much nonsensical speculation and conclusions drawn from nothing. He's proven himself already and as long as he stays healthy and motivated I see no issues whatsoever. He'll try to run fast when he needs to and I hope he succeeds!

You realize that his 3:35 from last year equates to like 3:53 for the mile right?

In a recent VNTC workout video, it sounded like Warhurst said something about Hobbs being “…back running now.” Did Hobbs miss some time due to injury? Or did I hear that wrong?
