He dropped a 2 minute+ personal best today. Mid last year he started getting coached by Haron Lagat, which led to a solid 4th at NYC in a PR, and subsequent selection to the US Team for the Worlds.
Now today he finishes top 10.
Good job Elkinah.

Good job Elkinah.
And Elkinah is a nice guy also.
Kudos to Kibet.
Awesome job! Haron is doing amazing things with Emmanuel Bor and now Elkanah 2 for 2 on marathons.
Best performance by an American.
He competed the longest, which is more important than finishing higher. You can't win after you get dropped.
Bekele proved in Berlin that you can get dropped and still win!
How much you wanna bet this post was started by Haron? Haha all this praise for an athlete that he has only coached a few months. No talk of the results of his athlete Lawi who was world class and is now getting beat by B athletes in Colorado. I.e. horsetooth half. Also what happened to his other "athletes"? Seems they've all disappeared or gotten way slower. Stanley kebenei used to run almost 45mins for 10 miles a few years back and since he has been with haron he couldn't break 45 for 15k. No mention of that, haron and crew?
What is wrong with you that you must try to bring down others when they succeed?
What a sad life you must have.
Congrats to Kibet on a really strong showing and huge PR.
This must be Scott Simmons.
Hello moron.
I’m not Haron but I do follow the sport. Lawi ran 27:52 last month and ran Horsetooth as a tempo run. Haron’s new group has been in gear for almost one year and has been coaching some of the WCAP team prior to.
Not sure what your deal is but surely you must be a joy to sit next to at Thanksgiving dinner.
Don’t bother replying.
He is not a moron. He is drunk.
Ironically you didn't respond to any of my statements. Why? Because they are true. Lawi wasn't doing a tempo, he died man. He was suffering. Clearly this is haron giving himself self praise and trying to defend a once world class guy that has morphed into a B level local runner. Lawi should go back to college coach imo. How exactly do you "know" lawi was running a tempo? Laughable. Clearly you weren't there or you would have also seen the guy got dropped and picked off by much slower athletes
Lawi has not been the wane since the summer after graduation, exonerating both of you dîpshîts. The question should be what changed after that 13:01 summer?
Who?
I bet the post was started by Sam Chelanga he is full of himself
Is Kibet sponsored?
Lalang hasn't been world class since 2013/4, so I don't know if I'd put that on his current coach. That you framed it otherwise tells me that you are not being objective about this.
Two great marathons in a row now, 4th at New York (beating Bekele and others) and 9th at Boston to run 2:09:07. With only six Kenyan/Ethiopian runners in the race there aren't a ton of other guys who are highly likely to beat him. If he can repeat this type of performance again he'll likely land himself in the top 10 at worlds, maybe even a medal threat if a few of the top studs have a bad day and drop out.
Congrats to Kibet! Exceptional performance by an exceptional person.
I do agree that this thread seems like a plug for “Peak Running” or whatever it’s called. Seems just as shady as Simmons group and probably abuses government/WCAP money just as much…
Yeah dk why this thread got so badly sidetracked, but this was another strong performance from Kibet. Credit to Fauble for the smart way he managed his race, but Kibet hanging on might be as good if we're talking in absolute performance terms.
Kibet's got a real chance, looking at a not 100% reliable Kenyan team.
- Kamworor he beat today, and has struggled to stay healthy or
-Barnabus Kiptum has a pretty high ceiling, but he got beat by a minute in his last race (2:07:34), not exactly convincing
-Ok Lawrence Cherono is hard to see not being one of the top 3 or 4
If Bashir Abdi, Abdi Nagaaye and Gabriel Geay all compete it becomes very tough. We'll see how good a team Ethiopia throws out there.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
