It's a good effort, no denying it. They had super spikes, the best team ever assembled, the best coach ever, the youtube channel, the big meet to do it at under the lights, etc.

But what Newbury Park needs to do from here on out is respect the records. (Get after it downvoters)

Richard Smith was the real difference maker for Reston South Lakes. If memory serves me correctly, that guy was like 48 in the quarter and 1:52 in the off chance he ran the event. He ran 3:03 which is no joke. I have seen 4:15 guys struggle to break 3:15 at that distance because it is such a weird race distance. So Smith rose to the occasion that day.

I think they respect the records. The wind definitely was worth 4 seconds (compared to ideal conditions, which does sometimes happen in that area at his time of year). Credit to them for going for it and running a US #1 (per the announcers on the livestream).

With the super shoes they shouldve smashed it! These kids are strung out, I can tell. Should just go out and race and stop generating their own hype.

They're a great team and with another chance later in the year they'll break the record. But stop blaming the wind. Compared to typical midwest and northeast mid April it was probably decent weather

I’m not blaming the wind. I’m being realistic in response to a guy who says “they dont respect the record”. The point is- it could have happened- it’s Not like they are miles off and it was crazy to try.
Anytime you try to assess a performance, with pacing, drafting, positioning, weather, etc., you get people saying “stop making excuses”. It’s not the same thing.

They won't get much rest. State qualifying starts soon.

There is no excuse for NP not getting this record. It was a massive underperformance today.

There was no reason for these kids to be time trialing indoors in Jan-Feb. They should’ve been hitting the mileage and threshold work for a few months and before opening up for outdoors around now.

Tinman and Hunter tried the same approach his senior year. Jan-Feb of that year was the last period of his career that could be considered extraordinary.

This is like having the 2017 gs warriors and then imploding for no reason. I don't see how anyone could possibly not smash these records with this once in a generation level of talent.

it was noted in an earlier thread that they have an 11.3/22.8 guy who hasn't run a 400. that is typically good for no worse than a 51. probably closer to 50, if not under in a relay split.

Why? If it was windy it surely affects the result.

This was not the big four was it? 53 and 1:56?

I hope you all realize now why Webb ran that 1500 yesterday. He was appeasing the running gods with an act of humility in exchange for his HS team getting to keep the record.
