Derek Murphy Announces He Doesn't Have Time for Marathon Investigation

This is a sad day. He did more for running in recent years than 99% of people, and he did it on a volunteer basis. Always did his best to ensure that cheaters paid the price. While people on here like to accuse athletes of drug use without any proof, Murphy meticulously presented evidence like a lawyer. Splits, photos, missed timing mats, etc. Guy was always on top of his game. The cheaters are celebrating today; it just became MUCH easier to cheat in races.

Best wishes to him and hope he enjoys the extra time with his family. Maybe someone else will pick up the torch and carry on with the investigations.

Derek Murphy was an important part of the Marathon community to keep everybody honest.
Now others will have to step up.

Is your definition of "community" criminally harrassing a black woman in Laytoya Snell for years that Derek Murphy admitted didn't even cheat?

Murphy should move to Utah and apply for state funding like that new elite running club. If he can get $100K of taxpayer funds, that should be enough for him to be full time MI for at least a year.

Of course I guess with a below average reputation score and court records, i could see why he might leave the public eye.

Don't understand the bit about 'spectators know the truth', but the only person responsible for what Frank Meza did, for how he used that 'fame' to his own advantage, for drawing attention to himself and giving cause to an investigation, for not coming clean and for everything that caused him to take his own life, was Frank himself.

People everywhere can accurately assess his performances, checkpoints or lack thereof and come to an obvious conclusion. But again, what Murphy did and what transpired here was completely overboard. The Mike Rossi situation was the same thing.

I have heard so many running lies in my life working at running stores when younger, waiting on the statewide circulations. At the end of the day, it was either a compulsive liar or something was seriously mentally wrong with them. But I always knew the truth.

Tomorrow morning at your family's Easter brunch is a good time to think about the empty spot at the Meza family table.

I am glad he is gone. I have been wanting to cut Marathon courses so many times but I did not because I thought I might make front page on his web page. As such, I never could get into Boston and I can't brag about my times. Now, I can. Expect some pretty epic PR's going forward. I might even launch a couple of Vlogs on my newfound racing success.

Seems to me that people have an aversion to accountability now a days. Get called out for cheating and all the sudden you’re the victim and the accuser is the bad guy. It’s a societal deficit that I fear is too ingrained now to be remedied.
