Don't have the splits in front of me, but MacLean put a bit of distance on the "world best" wave lights, and Ellis a little more. Willis seems like she gave a little back, but still ran well. St. Pierre seemed to give some distance back to the lights for the first 1300m and then turned on the jets to blow it open.
how is that a world best? my high school ran 10:2x and a team from my state (also high schoolers) almost broke 10. it's a decent time but nothing spectacular
I’m, a bit contrived? That’s an understatement. I must be getting old, we used to train to race, try to beat the competition. Americans no longer race, just set up time trials to achieve a time not to beat the competition, there is no competition. Yay!
the reality is if the pro's actually cared about the sport they would have nike vs nb vs club ect... the pro's actually don't care about promoting the sport in any way shape or form... ironically, it most likely cost them money in the end as over time if you build the sport by showing up at races sponsors would actually see value in paying you...but anyway, we have to get excited about fake races with wave lites that break national records becasue thats what our sport is
This team's time of 10:33.85 beat the previous DMR record of 10:39.91 by 6.06 sec. Break down of the race leg-by-leg, with previous record in parentheses and difference:
MacLean, 1200m: 3:14.92 (3:16.02) -1.10 s
Ellis, 400m: 52.04 (52.69) -0.65 s
Willis, 800m: 2:03.30 (2:03 ) +0.30 s
Purrier St. Pierre, 1600m: 4:23.60 (4:28.32) -4.72 s

Hypothetically, if the DMR was in the Olympics and had the same prestige as the 4x1 or 4x4, the outdoor women's record would be in the 10:10 to 10:15 range.. it would be a pretty good race between US, GB, Kenya and Ethiopia in 2021
1200 leg (generally countries no.2 1500 runner) Kenya/Ethiopia 3:07 (one will want to take it out hard) GB Jemma Reekie 3:08 US Heather McLean 3:10
400 leg Kenya/Ethiopia 51-52 (3:59) GB 49-50 (3:58) US 48-49 (3:59)
800 leg Ethiopia (Alemu) 1:59 (5:58-5:59) Kenya 2:00 (5:59-6:00) GB (Hodgkinson) 1:57 (5:55-5:56) US (Mu) 1:56 (5:55-5:56)
1600 leg (Tsegay chases down Muir and St. Pierre in the first 600 (Tsegay 62/64, Muir/St. Pierre 64/66, Kipyegon 62/64) with Kipyegon on stalking behind, pace slows to a 67 on the third lap and all four bunch up hitting the bell at 9:12.. Muir makes a move for the lead with 300 out and passes Tsegay, Kipyegon strikes with 150 to go, St. Pierre falls back but still closes in 61mid)
Ethiopia (Tsegey) 4:15 (9:12.4) Kenya (Kipyegon) 4:13 (9:11.6) GB (Muir) 4:17 (9:12.0) US (St. Pierre) 4:19 (9:13.9)
