Let me get this straight. The entire Marmonte League (Which Newbury Park is in) had to change their pre-scheduled league finals meet so 4 elites could go run at Penn Relays?? What about the other 500+ kids?
Are you surprised? This is what kills me about people like Brosnan, who says it’s for the kids. Yeah, it’s for YOUR kids, screw the other several hundred. Look at his tantrum about CIF qualifying being at Mt Sac. He’s crying about how hard it is for the teams going to NXN and ignoring the fact that for thousands of kids, prelims is their last meet and they deserve a quality experience rather than a dust bowl abandon golf course. I’m sure the rest of the league doesn’t want to fight and are tired of dealing with him, so it’s easier to just give in.

Moving it up sets a terrible precedent. League-CIF-State has always been the top of CA HS track. This values Penn Relays above that. Shame on the administrators for going along with it.

ok its set a national record as a team surrounded by elite competition in an iconic invite OR win a 3200 by 18 seconds and earn a distinction they've already surpassed in xc

do you have to run league to enter sections/state in Cali?
not the way it is in NY. you hit a qualifying time at any point in the season to go to the state qualifier (sectionals).
Yeah, you do. But the state meet is the same day as Pre. If you had an athlete that could get into Pre where would you rather they run? I presume this only applies to Colin.

Even with the schedule change I don't see how the NP4 can do both qualifying and Penn Relays. The 4 x mile is set for 4/29 in the evening. Assuming the now 4/28 League Finals are in the afternoon it means that as soon as their events are over they have to rush to the airport to catch a red eye to Philly. It has to effect their performances on 4/29. Maybe Brosnan should forget about Philly and focus on State qualifying. He's asking too much of his kids.
The coaches should have put their foot down. This might sound mean spirited but Brosnan deserves to get some flack for this. What an egomaniac! Just go to the Mt. Sac Relays ya chump.

what kind of times will the guys need to run on 4/26 and 4/28 before running the 4xmile on 4/29?
wonder which events each of the 4 boys will be entering.
From what I gather on twitter, they now have league prelims on Tuesday, distance finals on Thursday and the rest of the finals on Friday.
Screws the distance kids who can’t afford to cruise in prelims by giving them one last day to recover before finals.
Screws the sprinters who have much less time to recover between events without the distance races. 400/200 becomes impossible and no 3200 between the 200 and 4x400.
All of this so 4 kids who skipped CIF last year can go run at Penn. Screw the masses for the privileged. What a joke!
