It's not Newbury Park's fault that the meet director jams these fields so full.
Come on, these are kids we’re talking about here. When they’re professionals or representing Team USA, you can say they “screwed the pooch.” When they’re professional, you can be a vulgarian if it suits you. For high schoolers, be encouraging and set a good example. We want these kids to be blessed by the experience.

It's not Newbury Park's fault that the meet director jams these fields so full.
Nothing to do with it. They could have very easily gone out at a relaxed reasonable pace and patiently moved to the front. They ran the race like freshmen and sprinted to the front from the gun. Not how you run a fast 3200m

I heard they went out in :25 flat. The 50m splits were 6.53-6:13-6.02-6.32. Definitely ruined the race in that 3rd 50m segment. Should’ve been 6.46 or slower. Anything under 6.37 is too fast. It was just so wild and crazy that first 200m! No one’s ever gone out that fast, ever!

Hey genius, look up the top high school 2 mile times ever. None of them went out under 30 seconds at the 200 meter mark. Makes all the difference in the world.
They are high school kids. Give them a break. Almost every high school race I've ever watched goes out too fast.
It goes to show how perfect Newbury Park has been in the past 12 months or so that they can have six guys at 9:02 or faster, including two in the 8:30s, one in the 8:40s, and one in the low 8:50s, and all the haters are upset.
These are 16 and 17 year old kids. Not every race will be perfectly executed.

How did they screw up the race "for everybody"? If I'm in a crowded field, I love it if people get out fast to thin things out. I'd way rather run down a bunch of people who got out too fast than sit in a big pack with everyone getting out at a reasonable pace.

How did they screw up the race "for everybody"? If I'm in a crowded field, I love it if people get out fast to thin things out. I'd way rather run down a bunch of people who got out too fast than sit in a big pack with everyone getting out at a reasonable pace.
Because it forced everyone else to go out too fast as well. With that many top competitors, no one’s gonna be trailing off by themselves during the first lap.

I guess you’ve never run an elite level race? 30 kids packed up but you’re gonna be 3 seconds back on your own? Good luck with that noob.

These are all top level 3200 runners but none of them were challenging for the win and they all new that. With all of the experience in the field they didn't need to follow NP for that fast 200 and 60 sec 400, but they chose to.

If they had gone out slowly you but, but, buts would be complaining about that just like you complain about Centro’d gold medal.
Yep. End of thread. Who gives a crap whether they ran 8:30s, 8:40s, 8:50s, or 11:00s. I saw Newbury Park win, so that's all there is to it. And, if we've learned anything from people racing against Kiptoo, knowing how to handle suicide pace early on might come in handy at some NCAA meets later on.

Uh, that’s not what they said their goal was. They said the wanted 4 under 8:30 and to go after the record. They didn’t run to win. So, it was a screw the pooch by their definition.
