Who are the tallest, greatest, longest distance runners?

Brazier is 6’2, Andrew Wheating never really achieved goat status but he was like 6’5. I think Cooper Teare is pretty tall too. He’s going to be really good.

I considered him but felt he was on GOAT trajectory, not quite an established GOAT yet compared to the others listed like Ryun, Rudisha, or El Guerrouj.

No way is Brazier 6'2". I don't think Jim Ryun is either.

Brazier is strictly dominated by Rudisha as now.

Wikipedia says they both are.

Why would anyone doubt that Ryun and Brazier were/are 6’2” (I use “were” because maybe Ryun’s experienced some shrinkage)? 6’2” 160-165 is not unusual for 800/1500 guys, and just look at photos/videos, they’re clearly taller guys.

Back around 2013, I charted the heights of all Olympic male track medalists. Women took a long break from 800m and for awhile, 1500m was the longest women event so I could not statistically reliable numbers for women.

Men, 100m, about 6' Men 1500m, about 5'9". Male Marathoners, 5'6" or 5'7".

I recall height for 100m to 800m men were fairly close. No surprise big strong men win medals in events 100m to 800m. The longer the distance past 1000m, the greater the penalty one pays for being large.

A young James Ryun was at least 6'2". Most likely a bit taller than 6'2". With age is he a bit shorter now?

My son ran the 800 meters at Texas A & M and says that you are right to have him at 6'2"

He’s listed at 6’2 165. It’d be hard to be much shorter looking that slim.

Evan Jager and El Bakkali are both 6'2", but height is definitely an advantage for the steeple, so maybe tall steeplers aren't a good example.
