Excited to see 3x World Half, 2x World XC, 2x NYC Marathon champ Geoffrey Kamworor in the field. An exceptionally exciting runner when he’s at the top of his game.
Kirui as a reserve seems a bit strange to me. Out of all these guys, he has to be the most consistent, no? Super glad to see Kamworor in the field, easy to root for

I would counter that Lawrence Cherono is about as consistent as you get outside of Kipchoge.
Last 6 marathons- 2018 (1st Amsterdam 2:04:06) 2019 (1st Boston 2:07:57, 1st Chicago 2:05:45) 2020 (2nd Valencia 2:03:04) 2021 (4th Olympics 2:10:02 , 1st Valencia 2:05:12)
Him and Kamworor make for a very strong 1-2 as both are top 5 in Kenya to me. Kiptum has shown better recent form than Kirui, which is why he got the nod. It does make me think that a few guys said no because neither guy would be at the top of Kenya's wish list (Kipchoge, Evans Chebet and Amos Kipruto round out the rest of the Kenya top 5).

Kamworor is perfectly engineered for the half marathon and his WR showed it. But his marathon PR is from literally a decade ago. Shocking how people keep hyping him and ignoring Cherono!

I wonder if Kipchoge and Kamworor are going to face at some point again in the marathon. This year Kipchoge did not run Boston and Kamworor is running it. Almost everyyear Kamworor runs NYC and this year it looks like Kipchoge is running NY, but Geoffrey is running worlds. Is someone avoiding a clash between them in the marathon?

They are both NN Running Team athletes. Not sure if they are "dodging" each other as much as picking their spots. Kipchoge is trying to win all the WMMs (Nov. 6 New York I agree would make sense with victories already at Chicago, Berlin and London). You can't count out London because they will offer him a ton of money to run it. I could see Kamworor targeting reclaiming his World Half title (Nov. 13) OR taking on New York which would be an awesom matchup. Both provide a good deal of rest from Eugene. If he did World Half if he wants another Marathon in 2022, he could do Valencia and chase after a fast time.

His marathon PR is from literally 4 months ago.
Thank you I stand corrected, I was looking at wiki which has not been updated. Either way Boston will give us a good view of what Worlds could bring, should be good.

It's worth noting he disclosed after the race that he ran that PB on very limited training due to injury. Remains a huge talent with an incredible engine. Details here, but to run 2:05 on basically 5 weeks of training with one long run and two workouts is incredible:

Big Kamworor fan but I have to agree that he is a HM specialist. He wasnt breaking records when racing NY, although obviously he is a top marathoner. His marginal PR on a fast course with super shoes isn't very impressive, although the fact he did it injury after injury is. He had the bike accident and then I think one or two other injuries after that caused him to miss a ton of training and big events.
I don't think kamworor's "engine" is as good as other marathoners, he just has insane lactate threshold. I don't see him becoming kipchoge's successor, although I hope he proves me wrong.
